Google has become an important roll in modern life. We use it for research, it owns Android, it owns Youtube, and sometimes needed just to ask stupid questions. (Clearly this is not everything from Google, but just off the top of my head.) Pretty much everyone relies on this company nowadays in SOME way. I see commercials saying that you can run an entire business on your Android phone! (Personally, I think that's a bad idea.) Sooo... what would happen if Google shut down? How devastating would that really be? What kind of effect would that have on other big businesses?

Alright, I don't think I got the point across. Along with Google; Youtube, Android, and evrything else on this list would go down with it. They have purchased and merged w/ these companies.

To many reasons for me to list any specific one as to why I'd fail at researching with simply books. Then again, I'm confusing all internet sources for Google. Using a different site would suffice, but I prefer Google.

ARE YOU INSANE?! lol jk

Errr Shadow, Xero, and hewitt: Youtube and the entire Android market would go down WITH Google. It's no longer just a search engine.

Lame fact: It cost Google around 1.65 BILLION dollars for the rights to Youtube. Everyone thought that was a ridiculous idea at the time. I would assume they've made ten times that by now though. And they didn't "put it back up" 'cause it was never taken down.

Advertising. Google's main asset is its ever-intricate search algorithm that no other search engine has. You wouldn't be able to search as much for school with Google as Yahoo I'll bet. Yahoo used to be a competitor but has now moved on to being a variety of services with a search engine. If it competed with Google on that ground, they would've been dead a long time ago. But I digress.

Google provides a service that allows any site to integrate their search algorithm into their websites. You might've noticed it back then with sites like tvtropes, gamewinners, and such. Then Google is able to advertise along with those websites but for a fee, remove them altogether.

EDIT: Then you also have revenue stemming from sites paying Google to always be on top of their search results for a particular thing.

Yes, Google bought those other ventures, but they wouldnt necessarily not exist if Google was gone. They would just be fragmented ventures with a less than par search algorithm and the inability to integrate into any form of social media.

Yerp. Google owns Double-Click (advertising co.) too. Did you ever notice that Amazon advertisement on like, every search? Can you imagine how much Amazon pays for that?

I put a link on the front page of all of Googles acquisitions. There's like, 120 :O
