Have you ever heard of the loosely associated hacktivist group "Anonymous"? They really helped the people by attacking the government's computer to avoid internet censorship.
They helped a lot especially about the shut downed site "Megaupload" and also in the Philippines' "Cybercrime Law"

The problem with Anonymous is that the group can be represented by anybody as long as the individual doesn't reveal their identity. For some reason I doubt that the same hacker group that had no problem hacking government-owned websites, emails, databases, etc. would bother with a social website about stick figures, let alone fail at it.

And what would you call a gathering of people who represent an idea? Certainly not a group, right?

Anonymous are a group as much as capitalism is. As collective autonomous individuals anons do what they please. The only thing that really unites them is their anonymity and that they oppose censorship. Sure, there are little "groups" inside anonymous consisting of specific anons, but they cannot be spoken about as a one big group.

They crashed the servers for a while. And I got a shitload of "WE ARE LEGION HURR" messages on AIM that day

I forget how or why we caught their attention, but they didn't really fail. And this was way before anonymous became known as a "hacker group".

There is no such thing as a "specific Anon", and that was my main problem with the group. Anybody can act on Anonymous's behalf, so long as their identity is hidden and they claim to be Anonymous.

It wasn't people claiming to be "part of anonymous", it was whoever was on /b/ that night who had nothing better to do. And they didn't hack us, they just raided the forums and sent me a shitload of spam through AIM.

"We Are Legion" tends to, usually, be associated with either demons or Anonymous. Given the context, I assumed they were claiming to be Anonymous.

They could have very well just been trolls, but anybody can be Anonymous simply by making the claim.

This topic reeks of prepubescence.

I support them, they're maybe the only ones that can help us (in some way) against the internet censorship
