Silent Hill: Revelation is coming into our theaters soon. I'm pretty happy about this one because it looks like they're going to stick to the story this time. By the looks of the trailer its going to be based off silent hill 3 the game.
I'll be seeing it with my mexicain freind jeremy. What are your thoughts on the flick, by the looks of the trailer.

Silent Hill was one of the few horror movies I actually enjoyed watching. A sequel is awesome, but I hope to God that they don't pull some stupid Resident Evil shit in this.
Also the soundtrack still better be amazing. It's one of my favorite things about this title.

Quote from Hewitt
My only complaint is how suddenly Pyramid Head has become the official Silent Hill mascot at least in terms of the movies. He doesn't even have a right to represent in the first game (from which the movie is based from, right?) and they just included him because of his affiliation as a stereotypical movie monster.
Same here. He was supposed to be a twisted version of James Sunderland in SH2, not some fuckin triangle-headed version of Jason Voorhees who's on a murder spree. Same with the zombie nurses - they were in Silent Hill 2 because of James's emotional baggage, but here they almost seem like sex appeal. Weird.
I probably won't see it in theaters because I always preferred horror games to the movies (seemed to fit the medium better), but I might give it a watch once it comes out on Netflix or something.

Video games have more room to provide story for a horror theme. Movies on the other hand worry more about providing a thrill rather than story, which is what I'm afraid of.

Quote from HewittTechnically, PH was a representation of James' guilt (which should warrant a movie explanation appearance, but they didn't fuckin' use it!). Also, weren't there demon nurses in SH1?
I don't know if the demon nurses in SH1 were supposed to be sensual, since you can't make out anything through the visual mud of PS1 polygons. You're right though, I do remember nurses in the hospital level.

The nurses and mannequins, and other sexual oriented enemies were to represent how sexually depraved James was. Due to the fact that his wife had become a sick husk. any other questions about symbolism in silent hill 2?

I don't understand why people try to compare movies based on video games to the exact details of the video game. Most video games are boring as shit already, and derive their entertainment value from the fact that they are interactive and put you into the universe. Games that aren't boring would generally make boring movies due to the pacing and timing expected from feature films. This is why most movies based on content from other mediums don't always follow the exact plot and details of their source material, and that's okay. Sometimes it's called a re-imagining, most of the time it's just an alternate universe. Do you think the Nolan Batman movies are 100% faithful and accurate to the comics? Nope. Criticizing a film for not being a non-interactive version of the game is stupid. I get that sometimes it goes too far in the opposite direction, such as fucking up established characters, but most of the time they're trying to make something that wider audiences will enjoy while still pleasing fans of the game, and that often involves a new script. This movie in particular was never supposed to depict the third game perfectly, and neither was the first. With this movie, they were TRYING harder to stick to the source material, but they had to account for the fact that it's a sequel to the first movie, so a lot of the changes from the first movie carried over.

As for what I thought of the movie, I actually enjoyed the ride. It's by no means a good movie, even taking into account what I just said above. There were scenes where even established actors like Sean Bean couldn't fix, like the white-room scene at the beginning where he's hallucinating or something. The writing over all was kind of lame. They did explain everything adequately I felt, but moving from one event to the next felt almost forced after a certain point. This is especially noticeable when Heather wakes up in the Hotel room, walks outside and suddenly the bits inside Silent Hill begin. I also thought the inclusion of the blonde in the spider web thing was nice to kind of explain where the seemingly endless supply of bodies come from, but the character herself felt forced as well.
The thing is that I wasn't really in the mood for something that had a deep, thought-provoking plot. It was the night before Halloween and I really just wanted gore, action, horror and to be scared. That's why I enjoyed the ride. They did the monsters in it very, very well. The effects were really well done; I never really felt that what I was seeing seemed fake, like how some times on lower budget (or poorly done) films you get effects that look plastic or very obviously computer generated. The spider creature thing that I'm pretty sure is an original creation for the movie was actually my favorite monster. It was implemented really well and sorta gave me this creeping feeling. The ending I felt was adequate. Not great, but not really bad. I loved the way they did the battle at the end, I thought it was going to be really dumb but I actually enjoyed it. Those who have seen it should know which I'm talking about, the other "battle" on the merry-go-round WAS dumb as shit, and felt very out of place (like a swirling death hug).
Anyway, I agree that no one should expect too much from this. It would be a good movie to put on with a bunch of friends in the background to laugh at while you guys chat.

wow Jeff, just saw the movie the day after you posted this. And after seeing it I have to agree with what you said. But in my opinion the director/producer should make the movie so it appeals to both people who don't know what the hell silent hill is and for people who are seasonal gamers and have enjoyed the game and the series before the movie was even thought up. Normally I would be extremely biased and stupid about the movie because they didnt follow the story line, but I had picked up on a few things that were incorporated into the movie from the game
EXAMPLES:
Main characters name was Shanon, but for the time being she was Heather
-Heather was the name of the main charecter in silent hill 3 Not to mention they got her outfit like the game
In the scene with the "Manikin spider-doll"
- It splits its head open to reveal "Split-worm" A boss in Silent hill 3.
The entire mall scene
-You start Silent hill 3 in a mall
Overall the movie was great and I enjoyed it immensely. And apparently even my fellow gamer neck-beards too. We all walked out of the theater. Some of my friends saying "That was awesome!" and some saying "That was great! I like how they implied things from the game" So in a sense, to make a "good" video game based movie. Imply your own stuff, but at least keep some things in from the original, so that you will get an audience from "original gamers" and "newcomers" leading to new views...
BTW Adelaide Clemens was hot as fuck... I dont think theres any denying that.
