Yeah, so me and my friends at school would have this discussion quite frequently
I know there is a large group of people that just doesn't like listening to rap in general, but for those of you who do, answer me this, is rap dead/dying?
I for one utterly loathe MOST of the current generation of rappers (some exceptions being Hopsin, and possibly young blaze) and i consider them to be trash of the worst kind.
just to name a few that really rustle the old jimmies;
Future
Lil B
Meek Millz
Wale(he cant even rhyme properly for gods sake)
Rick Ross(despite his age he is still relatively new to the industry)
(fuckin) 2 chainz
and thats just off the top of my head, i could make a whole comprehensive list with some more time, but yeah. They're all trash. And the "old" generation is not doing all that well either. Lil wayne and Eminem are worshiped like some kinds of rap gods, but their new stuff is comparable with some of these new guys shit, and thats NOT GOOD.
So point being, i dont think its dead YET, but it sure as hell is dying and its giving some of the good new shit out and the old stuff a bad names
So yeah
Discuss/Argue/Debate/Flame
Not sure if debate or discussion
it can go either way imo, so mods, if this is the wrong place be a dear and move it?
much obliged.

Quote from JomboIt's subjective.
Well, i guess, but i remember when there used to be a standard and if you werent (insert metaphor level/lyrical prowess/creative flow level here) you were just shit.

Now anyone can say anything and its like "thank you based god, su-swag, su-swag"

I for one am tired about hearing about that nice ebony ass that can work it like a stick shift.
I don't listen to rap a lot. But if you rap, rap about something worth rapping about you stupid money gobbling fuckers.

What this guy said.
These days I hear rap on about:
-Sex
-money
-"Swag"
-Gangs
-Parties
-etc
which really is a worthless and repetitive theme. I can't even wrap my head around who and how the hell someone would like that shit.

Yeah, most of todays rap is saturated with talk of money, drugs or giving the dick to anything that moves.
i remember when people rapped about politics
(prozak used to do that a lot)

Quote from HewittThis. What is mainstream these days does not mean the alternative is dead. It's just not mainstream. In truth, there are 3 kinds of rap at any given time: Mainstream (whatever is popular now), Alternative (swag generation, tribal, etc.), and Underground (yet to be named or experimental, and niche sub-genres).
If you're really an enthusiast with a desire to look for a 'good' rap then you will seek it out. Because they currently do exist and you just need to look for them.
I leave with this video for everyone to ponder, and because it's hilarious.

Of course i know this, i was refering to mainstream, because there was a time when all three groups were all good.

no
hip hop has been great in the past couple years with Kendrick Lamar, Shabazz Palaces, Death Grips, Danny Brown, Aesop Rock, Killer Mike, Kanye West, and even some of OF's and Asap Rocky's stuff. there are good lesser known albums coming out all time time, like Dark Time Sunshine's ANX. I hope to hear more new experimental hip hop soon because it's going in a direction I like.
btw Hopsin is shit.

You do know that Lil B is satire, right
EDIT: I would say no, rap is not dead, and the only reason you would say that is if you don't actually look for music in that genre.

Quote from JomboOn the other hand, I could say that there was a time when all three groups were terrible.
There's to factual evidence here. It's all just opinion.
I see your point but ahm...
hm...
mhm..
*point ignored*
@jdogg, bad meets evil was good, i personally enjoyed it, mostly because of slaughterhouse/royce though, those guys have flow (most of them anyway).
Kid Cuddy makes some catchy songs, and yeah, he has been silent for a while.
A personal favorite of mine that im glad is still making music would have to be tech n9ne
@Fusion, im talking mainstream rap specifically, not rap as a whole
and I know hes doing purely for the luls, but most people i know that listen to him think hes like, the most legit rapper ever :|
@Index, y u no like hop ;c
although i agree with most of that list
Oct 15, 2012 1:08 AM #759898
because he is the most legit rapper ever. I hope he fucks your bitch sometime soon.
he's annoying and obnoxious, his exaggerated impressions and nauseating, he only got big by leeching off the success of people he dissed, and his fans don't even listen to hip-hop, yet pretend to know all about it, like some people ITT

His impressions And obnoxiousness amuse me and his just overall hatred of like, every rapper is funny
His flow isnt bad and his lyrical skill as a whole is lacking but still at the level where i can listen to it without flames erupting from every opening in my body *cough*future*cough* but i could see how you can dislike him.
