I've removed or begun watching mods that are either inactive or have been having attitude problems lately (or both). This is the first step to getting a better and more active team of mods who can keep everything tidy. There seems to have been a large increase in the older members being whiny about the site again. Keep an eye out for this behavior because in my experience it can easily lead to the person disregarding rules due to no longer giving a shit. I'd rather remove these members than have them bring down the atmosphere of the site.

Removed:

  • WarCorrespondent
  • Index

Now we should begin to rebuild the list. Jombo and Zed pretty much keep this place going at the moment, which is awesome but not really fair to them. I'd like to add some more people who would similarly do a lot to keep the place tidy. Please help us, suggest other members for mod positions. Suggest people for either global mod, or to be a mod of a specific section.

I'm thinking: Promote Bond84 to Global Mod as replacement for WarCorrespondent so he can do more (he has said he wants this). Promote Exilement to global mod to replace Index (Exilement has shown he gives a shit).

Another problem is that a lot of the sectional mods don't seem to actually know what section they're supposed to be moderating, or what their responsibilities are. So I'd like to step back and hammer out a definitive list of what people should be doing. So, current mods, please tell me what you know about your sectional duties right now. I've noticed that some mods haven't done a single thing yes, so I'd like to see why and possibly get them motivated.

I do try to be active and help out in these forums. I am online every day and I do help any member who asks me. If im not doing enough then I guess I'll just try to step up my game.

As for suggesting new mods, I would suggest Hewitt. He has helped me a ton with the BSE and I believe he would do great as a mod. If he wants to be one that is.

That I would very much appreciate. I'd like to actually be able to do something instead of moderate a section that gets almost literally no traffic.

I don't know which section I'm modding, but I've been doing General Discussion normally, I look there mostly to see what's happening.
I agree, I need to be more consistent, some points in time I've been modding and then other times very poorly. Currently, I've been busy with school. I've been going trying to go on, I go on IRC quite regularly and I do check out the forums quite a bit. Admittedly, I do just have a quick look through because I've been needing to revise for exams and stuff.
So yeah, I'll try to pick up my game.

I think for me it's more that I keep seeing infractionable posts that go unnoticed. I have 0 logs from you, Ultrachimp, so if you are able to moderate the general section, why don't you? It's mostly Jombo and Zed that I see actually handing out infractions or cleaning posts. Oxob, you have been doing a bit, but lately it seems to have slowed, so it's more a matter of just keeping on top of things.

I apologize if I seem aggressive, I'm not trying to berate anyone, I just want to get more information so I can get a better sense of what I need to do. The biggest problem I'm seeing right now is that the mods don't seem to really know what they should be doing. I've always said we should have a consistent guide to moderation so that everyone is on the same page, but I guess we aren't there yet. I'd like to start seeing people getting infracted more for breaking the rules. It seems like the mods (myself included) are collectively letting things slide a bit.

I fully agree here. I am also to blame for sure. I've tried getting some of the sectional mods up to speed with their sections but I would like to setup a regular meeting day.

I think that'd be great for everyone to be the same page, stay connected, and informed about whats happening all over the forums. Is this possible?

From there, we could create maybe 3 guides to fit the different sectional mod roles?

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by logs? If you mean infractions, I have given out before, to people who have broken rules. I agree fully with you though. I need to moderate it more. I do try to, but I have to admit I do slack on giving infractions. I guess I need to be more strict with my moderating and actually moderate fully.

I guess the moderator logs don't show infractions. Weird. Anyway, the logs are basically just a way for admins to keep tab on mods. They list pretty much every moderator action you take.

Sounds like a good developement. (referring to replacing inactive mods, not the bad situation haha)
As for suggesting new moderators, it would help if someone could have a look at the RHG Clan section. I think I remember Loopy saying he wouldn't mind doing that?

Back in the day (actually around summer 2009; before I was even a mod) there was a thread where mods could view a simplified set of the mod statistics. I had a look but it doesn't seem like there's a plugin like that for more recent versions of Vbulletin. Made me sad. Drunk Zed wants one of those again. It introduced some competition between mods in the same way that people want high post counts. If anyoen finds a mod for that (or is capable of inventing one) we should get that again. (I'm not gonna lie, I also think I'll win; especially if it includes stuff done in the last three years. But ulterior motives don't make an idea bad all on their own.)

I'm online loads, and when I'm online i'm usually on irc, I check Stickpage a bunch and blablabla

the only thing I really have a problem with is I'm not really sure what to do with my section

as of now, it seems everyone in the Community Animations really gets the idea, and It's not a section that really needs a mod IMO, so all I find myself doing is handing out infractions anywhere I can

I'd prefer it if I could possibly get a section change and help Omega out in the RHG section, mostly because that's where I'm most active, and that's where I see the things that need moderating most of the time, such as RHG characters or Clans that aren't following the rules, Omega said he's been busy with school etc. so he thinks it would be a good idea if I could help out with him because he's been to busy lately
