First of all, I'd like to say I'm 17 and I watch old cartoons for 2 reasons: because I like cartoons, and because I like animation from the old days.
I mean all shows before 2008 vs shows from '08 to now. I think all these new shows on nickelodeon, cartoon network, disney etc are all bullshit now. The humor is the most cheesiest and stupid ever, there are no more witty jokes, no more dark humor or anything. I still watch the old SpongeBob episodes for instance and they're funny as hell. Everything after season 3 of SpongeBob sucks shit. And have you seen all those jackass shows on cartoon network nowadays? The live action ones with the young teens overacting for every damn thing? Another series that was awesome was Invader Zim. They had they most dark type of humor for a kids network, talking about gore, killing people in diabolical ways and taking over the world.
Sure there are some shows now like Legend Of Korra, Young Justice and Adventure Time that are cool but regarding the majority of them, their quality has dropped a lot, it seems like everything nowadays are done for money. There's no real passion in anything. And with cartoons, nearly all cartoons these days are animated using computer programs. Only the story boarding is done manually. That traditional pencil animation was so epic that it actually seemed like people put in blood, sweat and tears (that's a little over the top but still). One of the most simplest shows back when I was a kid was Thomas the Tank Engine. They used real miniature models to animate the characters, and it seemed so awesome. Now, it's all just animated in 3D. That's another thing, every young kids show is in 3D, they're so lazy to animate it by hand and put some manual labor into anything. Sure, we gotta move with the times but kids these days don't know what real cartoons were like, and what real humor was like.
Another good example is Tom and Jerry. The old Fred Quimby episodes and even the Chuck Jones episodes were so badass, with realistic yet cartoony senarios that Tom and Jerry with get into and muck around in. Now in Tom and Jerry Tales it's so...not funny. All the jokes and everything suck, nothing's really hilarious, all the backgrounds, and animation are done on computer (as I mentioned before) and it's basically very boring. In the old ones, they would do so much with one simple idea. Take SpongeBob in another example. In the first episode, there was one section called the reef blower. SpongeBob wants to keep his front yard clean from anything, and so he gets a reef blower and unwillingly annoys the fuck out of squidward with just that one simple thing. Now in the new episodes, the plots are so complex and yet they're boring as fuck; the dialogue is shit, the art style is the worst, and the jokes? Seriously, don't even go there.
