So when I end up losing I usually go to another page when the statue is fully destroyed or I surrendered and went to another page.
And you won't believe that majicly when I came back within a few seconds bam I won.
My rating is now 1441 :)

Alright well it seems when I do it at the beggining it doesn't work.
But I usually do it when there about to win so roughly into 7-10 minutes of gameplay.
I highly doubt he had a lag issue since he wasn't lagging the whole time we fought.
And I've done this like 5 times now.
Just make sure to wait at least 20 seconds?
