new technique of shadow casting. idk if i like it because it's more precise, or it loses character by being too precise.
either way, it turned out well, minus my "can't be bothered" attitude towards drawing subjects

i like this!
just when the ball goes behind the pillar, the shadow like moved up and down,
i dont this is possible wihtouth the pillar moving,
maybe you did this to indecate the roundness of the ball??
idk
but this certainly looks cool :)

precisely. that's what i went back and fixed. since the shadow is cast at a 45 degree angle it doesn't hit the ball flat like i had before. that's why it goes up then down

glad you like it!

i think i might use this for future lighting. i made another animation that used the same techniques, just like 10x more of them.

trying to get the light to refract differently on each cut of the gem.

I'd like you to put a blur effect on the triangular shadow... shadows are only that sharp when the light source is very close to the object that make the shadow. and when the object/wall where the shadow is projected is more distant, the shadow becomes less sharper. I don't know if you understand me xD but that's just opinion c:

These are really snazzy, man! Did you do these by hand or through Actionscript? Either way, I'd love to see a tutorial if you'd be willing to make one.

Wow nice shadows. I think I'll test out something like this soon. Right now my shadows are... the opposite of good.

LK|LO: i know exactly what you're saying. this was supposed to be a very clean take on shadow casting which is why i didn't blur it in the first place. i may do it to see how it looks but i think it may clash with the scene.

CRONOS: thanks buddy

@SkyShark: no not actionscripted. all multi-layered masks. I don't have time for a specific shadow tutorial but i can do you one better. i've attached the FLA in this post. warning you it's CS6 but if you want to check it out feel free. i can also convert it down(to CS4) if anyone needs that.

N-M-E: the opposite of good is "getting better" lol. i want to do a much more complex version of this soon. this was just to see if the idea i had in my head actually worked
