Keep your mouth shut until you're done animating.

Jeff this actually meant a lot to me, thanks. I know exactly what you're talking about, and who you're talking about, though I won't name names, besides myself ofc.

FUCKING THANK YOU!!!

Yeah I've actually been doing that lately and people have been assuming shit like I've quit animation...
Lately I'm trying to elongate my normal anims and if I do shorts make them as quality as possible...
I'm also working on a full length (which I rly don't wanna do but I'm slowly still doing it anyway) and pondering taking up full body when I get the chance...

But I seriously thank you for saying this, I'm tired of seeing people get famous just for fucking making a series of 2 second shorts...

I don't think "the next Terkoiz" is supposed to only do tests and shorts...

This ish right here should be put in the Bible.

Its just so fudging on point. I don't even know how to describe it.

I mean I literally see this EVERYWHERE, I was thinking the same thing as well.
But no need for me to go into a rant, Jeff did it for meh.

Thank you Jeff.

The "tests" and "Shorts" that are made by the actual dedicated people actually do it to exercise a part of their animation skills whether it be easing, flow, gravity, anticipation, force. And if this is how you think. I can see it fully, the people who don't ask for CnC are basically saying: "Don't tell me my animations flaws so I can work on them, I just wanna know if its good" And that's true. But then again their is a majority of the community that is the complete opposite of this. People who actually would listen to posts like this and take them into account, people who actually posts test because their looking for feedback whether it be good or bad. So they can work on what needs improvement. I don't think that people pump out test anims and shorts because they think they will become famous for it. I think this only applies in some cases.

You misunderstood my post. I acknowledge that people make tests and shorts to work on their skills, that's a given, but I don't see people posting for CnC, and if they are there are usually two outcomes: they block the criticism if there is any, or no one actually provides constructive feedback. This is my point, the community is essentially one big circle jerk of trying to garner attention. I'm not saying people think they will be famous FOR pumping out tests, I'm saying people think they will be famous for being a good animator if they trick enough people into believing it.

The standards are ridiculously low in this community. Someone should not be known as a good animator if their tests demonstrate a solid understanding of animation. They should be known as a good animator if they apply that understanding to full projects. If someone is going to do tests, they should keep it to themselves as practice, or privately talk to other animators who also understand animation and are more likely to give you good feedback. Tests and shit should also only be for practice, that's it. People are churning them out like it's solid content, when they should focus more on a full project. I know people who only EVER post test and unfinished shit, and expect me to acknowledge them as a good animator or an animator at all, and I refuse to.

Now, as for "Focusing on yourself" This is also true. But at the same time we are in a community, are we not. The purpose of this community was so people could share their animations with everyone and get feedback so they can work to their goal. People will eventually make a full-length, but its good to show shorts and tests not because of sheer laziness but for improvement purposes. Wouldn't they want their future full length to be as good as can be so they will leave a mark on this community when they leave.

Again, that's an ideal situation, but no one here is doing that, and you're being far too narrow. How many times have you seen someone post progression animations and then never actually finish? I've seen it more than I have seen people finish projects. A community should be there to support each other and help improve. We SHOULD be doing this, but we aren't. Tests and Shorts need be the least of what this community produces. My point was more for larger projects, which no one seems to take on because they're busy trying to impress everyone else with their shitty 2 second piles of crap. People hype themselves up over their "big project" and then never actually finish. The rare times when this community makes something complete are also the times when there is a monetary reward, so the focus shifts from gratification to money, which a lot of people will go for over people telling them they're good.

What's even worse are the people who make some minor accomplishment and then act like they're big cheese because they released a collab full of shitty entries, or they animated a full figure rather than a stick. These people are insufferable and obnoxious. So coupled with the same desire for immediate gratification, the also walk around with big heads and look down their nose at people who are doing the same shit they are.

Thanks for clarifying on that Jeff. I understand now, although I still don't believe this applies in all cases. Like you said, are community mainly consist of egocentric attention whores. But still, a good number of members in this community actually isn't that way. Jombo, Oreo, Yun, MX, SethX, Corn, And I'm sure I could name a few more. But the number of obnoxious attention starved idiots in this community overrules that group by a large margin. Thanks Jeff c:

EDIT: I know what you meant by no CnC or brushing away CnC, it's mainly the members giving feedback that's the problem. I experienced this first hand once: Read through this thread.

Wow, haven't looked that way before.

Maybe I should try to finish it instead of stalling. I've wasted so much time that I've forgotten to do my anims. How am I going to be an animator if I don't get stuff done?

This is why I say most. I never said that what I'm saying applies to every single person. I also think you've deluded yourself so that you can justify the same mindset I'm talking about. Yun and SethX specifically are terrible for doing this, and I don't know how you can't see it. SethX specifically has been caught numerous times tracing, lying and stealing other peoples work for what? Attention. Yun unfortunately considers himself some sort of top dog now because why? He lied a bunch of times and finished an unoriginal collaboration that was mostly comprised of terrible animations? I warned Yun that his collab wasn't the first of anything, and he continued claiming it was the "first collab to span multiple sites and programs" even though it barely contained anything other than flash. Miccool told me Yun lied on multiple sites about his endorsement, claiming that Miccool was part of the collab when he wasn't. All they want is attention without actually doing anything. This is my point. Jombo has also talked about this very issue elsewhere, and a lot of the people you guys consider "pros" also agree with this sentiment. This community rewards the worst kind of member and no one can seem to fix it.

Well then I suppose we'll all just have to work on it. I just pointed out some people I figured were off the top of my head. Yun actually ended up removing a majority of the stick figure animator animation from TDC, Guz originally made 2 parts. Only one made it in, i wouldn't be surprised if he purposely left out a few others. I'm not contradicting what you're saying.

That's exactly my point, this needs to be addressed, if you weren't so busy trying to justify the egos of yourself and your peers you would have seen that.

That collab was just bad.
I dont understand what youre trying to say.
The vast majority of the parts were horrible
And as jeff said, it was like 90% flash 10% other
