Ok, so first of all, I, as did they, had no idea what that was until you said what it was.
secondly, in a first person view, you would still be able to see the hands and parts of the arm, that sword must have been swung at a very awkward and unrealistic angle for only the top of it to be shown on screen.
Third, a sword is a hard object made of METAL.
it wouldn't flop and shake around like that, unless you're animating fencing with a rapier, and in that case, you're doin it wrong.
Try to fix that. If you were going for a movement like effect, just use gradients, or movement lines at the end of the sword, while keeping the actual sword solid.
