This is a simple tab..
The top E represents the highest string.
The bottem represents the lowest string.
The numbers refer to the fret.
Frets are the horizontal lines on the guitar.
So to play this you would put your Index finger on Seventh fret from the headstock on the the 5th string up (a) and strum that string twice Then move it to the 10th fret. And so on.

Hope this helps for those stuck.

The tab is for the intro to Seven nations army by the white stripes.
This is extremly basic.
Other stuff:
G-----------------------------------------------|
D-----------5h6-----------------5---7-5---------|
A--------5-----7--5---------5h7---------7-------|
E-0--5h7------------7--0-5----------------5-----|
The "h" is the hammer on, you play the first note and put your finger down on the second one while the note is still ringing.
Thanks to Lgolos for that.
"/" indicates a slide.
While your at it, include the most common symbols:
h = hammer on
p = pull off
For example, 5h6p5, simply means you play the fifth fret, hit the sixth fret with a finger on your left hand, and then pull that finger off.
^ = bend
Thanks to the pirate for that...
Small tip on stuff: Dont over use the whammy bar or your strings or even your bridge could snap.
