Whenever I use large amounts of movie clips or something, it lags or slows down the animation.

Any suggestions on how to fix.

don't use a shitload of movie clips?

What kind of OS do you have? What are your computer's specs? Flash 8 is a 32 bit program so it can only use a fixed amount of RAM, I think it's around 2 gigs, if you have less than that then buy some additional memory.

Did you try to find anything on Adobe's help center, or did you just ask here first?

You didn't do any work trying to solve this problem on your own, so if you're going to make us do the work for you, at least give us something to work with.

edit: Are you using scenes? Imported images? Describe what you're doing and what kind of lag you're experiencing. You need to actually give details so we understand what the problem is, and hopefully pinpoint its cause. "flash lags if I use movie clips" provides absolutely no useful information. It's like saying "my leg hurts when I run" and expecting a doctor to diagnose you based off of that.

Okay okay.
So I made a an explosion. Added some lighting using a circle with a gradient. I increased the size of the circle as the explosion increases in size. I put the frames of the light into a movie clip. Added an overlay blend and I experienced lag once I exported it

I've asked twice for two specific pieces of relevant information and you've ignored them both. If you can't help me help you then I'm done trying.

Sup Zane! Let's see if I can give you some helpful pointers.

Well, first of all, try to avoid slapping several filters on an object. It can make a big change on how your animation runs, and even if the object looks good, it can really slow your animation down. Added to that, try not to have several movie clips playing at once, since that can cause the same problem as having several filters on an object.

Like I mentioned earlier, if that movie clip has tons of filters on it, it'll slow down your animation drastically, but only in the area which those movie clips are placed on the canvas. I've had a lag problem like this several times, and my animations seemed to run smoother when I had removed some of the filters of the movie clips I've used.

Thanks mang. And I would show the animation, but it's kinda a secret thing and I have a LOT of progress with it. Don't want it spoiled.
I will try taking off some filters too man.
