Hello and welcome to stage 1 of the StickPage Lifetime Achievement Awards!
We've taken on the job of finding the animator that has entertained and influenced us most in the entire history of stick animation ! Long story short, our history is more complex than you would expect. We will have a 32-contestant knockout-tournament style contest (that means 1 on 1 poll battles). That means we'll be making a total of 80 polls over the next few months (I don't expect it to be longer than 2 or 3 months) over the course of 5 stages! For more information on the technical aspects of the contest, please read this thread: http://forums.stickpage.com/showthread.php?56850-Greatest-Stick-Animator-of-All-Time
It's simple. All you need to do is go to each poll and vote for one of the two participants. The one with the most votes wins and moves on in the competition. The one who is defeated has to face the other defeated participants from that stage for the runner-up positions.
ALL POLLS CLOSE AROUND MAY 25TH
List of polls:
Main Competition
1. LuccasBode VS Miccool
2. Plasmaghost VS Jombo
3. Peter Satera VS Oxob3000
4. Sj8 VS Jomm
5. Nhazul VS Avanz
6. Danmark VS Pluto
7. Nova1Duke VS Supranova
8. Godmouth VS Terkoiz
9. Tentionmaru VS Hyun
10. Rhythm VS Jcamelo
11. Poppetje3D VS Dannyplatinum
12. Kidkei VS Lf2master
13. Endo VS Zhu
14. Geo VS Oscar Johansson
15. Stone VS Psyder
16. Justsolo VS Oreo
NOTE: The match-ups were done using a random number generator.
Bare in mind that I didn't have the time to do much research or anything. Where there aren't enough links, please provide us yourself with some and I'll edit the threads. Support your favorites! :) That's what it's all about in the end.
The reason why this thread is in Main is because people don't generally check the Poll Central section, which is where the polls will be hosted.
The reason why these polls will last 14 days (I know, that is too long and everyone will have voted within the first few days) is personal and involves exam finals and a recently acquired uncertainty of the "when life gives you lemons, they're bitter and foul and there's nothing you can do with them" type. Explanations will be given if required, but remember we're just doing this for fun. :)

I think you need something more then raw voting to get a fair result. Remember, most of the people here are under 15 and are inclined to choose their friends rather then what they really think. You can also see by the original poll that pretty much Hyun or Terkoiz would win by default because people don't take the time in actually looking at the things others have done.
I suggest you get some people together to look at the people and judge along with having the votes, this would give some oldies that actually planted the seeds for the others that would come afterwards a chance. This wouldn't have to be every round, the judges could come in around the end, maybe the last 2 or 3 rounds.

Gunnii, frankly, I respect your idea. I've used judges in everything I've done before but I'm willing to let the community of nowadays decide on this one.

Scarecrow, Exilement and Zed?
There's not a lot of oldies around from what I can tell

How is terkoiz not in here? I sort of expected him to sweep all the others away.

I had a heart attack while reading this post

Why is that?
Edit: Oh yeah he put him in now.

No, it's because you actually think the others have no chance against Terkoiz.

It's not me personally. I think many people would actually beat him. It's just that he has a lot of fanboys, who will vote for him most of the time.

Ugh..... most of people will just vote for phil, because they don't even bother to look at others' animations. I'm quite sure that a half of the people here doesn't even know Avanz (and damn he is good).
I hope that this work, currently voting now :3.

Godmouth's anims are good, kudos for him. But Shock still shocked me to this day.
Godmouths's anims are kinda creepy though.

Wait, is this an elimination style or a round robin? Meaning that if someone loses in this round, will they be eliminated for further voting?

I'm not quite sure I understand the point of this, it's entirely arbitrary and weighted unfairly towards people who are currently in the spotlight vs. people who had major accomplishments years ago but don't have many fans who are still active. Rather than a unbiased detailed analytical look at each person, you're randomly pitting them against each other and then asking people to gut-vote based on who they like more. I mean, for shits and giggles to see who is currently "the most popular" maybe, but this is hardly an adequate way to determine someone's overall lifetime achievement...

I agree. A lot of these match ups seem very unbalanced and its difficult to definitively choose one animator over the other because of their differences in time. Pluto vs Danmark is one example. While choosing one over the other may be difficult, many people here will inherently choose Pluto since many knew him more personally and were able to participate in his animations. Rhythm vs JCamelo, KidKei vs Lf2Master, Poppetje3D vs DannyPlatinum, Endo vs Zhu, Geo vs OJ, and JustSolo vs Oreo are all example of this, since all these battles are between animators who were popular right now vs people who were popular when places like Shiftlimits was still popular.
And even if someone like Zhu managed to win, it's not like it means anything since that person hasn't been active in animation for a looooong time, much less in SP. A Hall of Fame would make a lot more sense.
I also want to say that, unless the animation archive in FA was saved somewhere, a lot, and I mean a lot of animations by some of these authors were deleted.

Each participant gets 5 fights. It's statistically unlikely that every one of them will be "unfair and difficult to make a decision upon". By stage 5 things will come in place, because this functions by the principle "winner vs winner", "loser vs loser".
(So whereas in SPT and NGSS we had judges... well, me and SSJBryando most of the time, put people into categories, SLAA gradually does that for itself)
Sadly, you guys are starting to slowly and articulately drain all of my enthusiasm out of me. As a consequence to all the various advice and criticism I've been getting with this SLAA event I have to say: "If I weren't doing this for <>, I'd be requesting payment. And you can see the reasons below."
And by shits and giggles I mean, of course, the joy of seeing a multitude of people debate together on a certain topic and express their more or less humble opinions and also my fetish for tournaments and statistics.
To actually find out who of dozens of animators who have made a mark on this "industry" is the greatest would require hours of work which, as far as I can tell, border on intermediate level sociology. SLAA is just a little contest. It won't give an accurate list of 32, but it will definitely give an accurate list of at least 10. It is about the community expressing their opinion, not a group of critics performing an analysis on the development of an online animation genre, which, as much as I love stick animation, sounds silly anyway.
It is needless to say that there is no real "best of the best of all time". Influence acts on an individual level. The experience of watching any type of entertainment is personal.
Also, I can't help but notice that on some level you're requiring of me to design this event in a way that would manipulate the crowd and direct their attention towards a certain group of people for a certain outcome. This is a situation similar to the one in the music industry. The critics (the expert opinion) may appreciate a virtuoso guitar player, but in the end the guy who plays four chords and cliche lyrics sells more, because he appeals more to the crowd (the general opinion). We know that the virtuoso is better but not everyone does and we can't convince them of our opinion. It's just who they are, what they know and who they like. All in all, SLAA will provide a general, current day opinion, because, well, that's all this type of event can do.
Also, I'm not the one who nominated all the "buddies" :( But if I skipped nominations and just picked 32 myself or with the help of a few veterans it wouldn't have been exactly fair... I guess we'll just see what happens. I think it will turn out alright.
