On a brief resume, to be a mod you must must not be a potato.

You were drinking pretty heavily, and between the tears I think you said something about making the pain go away.

you guys don't know anything, you don't know what went on behind the scenes when you were being elected. as an experienced ex-moderator i can safely assure you that the only way to become a moderator is to be popular and sassy and cool on the internet

In other words, survive a week in 4chan and live to tell the tale.

Yes, because obviously I was serious. So serious in fact, that absolutely every mature person took me seriously. Oh noes.

You don't need to be an intellectual to be a mod. Being good in debate just makes you a debater, nothing more.

Grimm used sarcasm. It was not very effective.

I joined the debate section long before I even thought about moderation.

That's real mature, Hewitt. A great example you are setting for future core mods... >_<

In the last 30 days hewitt has completed 2,000 total moderator actions around here. That's an average of 67 per day, which is more than some mods do in an entire month. He's BY FAR the most active moderator we have. On top of that, he's currently organizing his second mafia game, a wRHG competition with achievements he made himself, an ongoing flash game competition with a detailed scoreboard he constantly updates, a puzzle competition where he wrote FIFTY TWO haikus about individual members, a voting game that lasted 8 rounds, and The Chamber which lasted nearly two months and amassed over 600 pages worth of replies. That's all within the span of a few months, and somehow he still found the time to make nearly 4,000 posts in under a year. I'm almost positive he set a record for the quickest promotion to moderator in Stickpage history, AND he's an active op in the stickpage IRC channel.

So if you honestly think a single joke is a justifiable reason to criticize hewitt for not "setting an example", then go fuck yourself. I'm amazed that hewitt puts so much effort into improving this community considering he has to deal with ungrateful pieces of shit like you. As far as I'm concerned he's the best thing that's ever happened to this forum in the 7 years I've been here, and if an admin position was ever offered to me I'd probably give it to him instead. He deserves it way more than I do.

Anyways, showing a polite, insightful attitude is also a big responsibility of moderation.

No it isn't. My responsibilities are to enforce the rules, help determine new policies and administrative procedures, and generally do whatever is necessary to keep the forum in good condition. We don't expect or enforce a standard of "politeness" and we're not going to censor ourselves because you think we should have one.

I'm not a mod myself but I have "moderated," so to speak. I don't like to wait for a mod to intervene when I see a war unfolding, or a troll emerging from under their bridge. I deal with them as I see them, unless a mod has already intervened.

This is blatantly against the rules. You don't have the capability or the authority to interpret and enforce the rules as you see fit. That's what we're here to do.

When someone breaks a rule, they get an infraction to notify them of their behavior through the private messaging system. That's something only a moderator can do, and we do it this way for a reason. If someone double posts, replying just to say "don't double post" degrades the thread even further by adding more off-topic spam, and the double post is still there. The person who double posted might not even see your reply. It makes the problem worse, solves absolutely nothing, and for some reason you think you're doing something good. You aren't.

You've admitted your intent to continue acting like a moderator because you feel like it's your "duty", even though I've already warned you once for it. You're on my shit list, buddy. This is the last warning you're going to get. Next time I see you mini-mod, you'll be banned for at least a week for blatant insubordination.

Wow Exilement, that paragraph will make Hewitt cry. And I agree with every single word that you wrote, I don't even know what to add, I think you said everything.

Firstly, I already caught shit from Hewitt about minimodding. And in regards to the first quote, that was sarcasm, as I had told him. I was well aware how much Hewitt does, but I am just as busy with school as he is with this forum. Yeah, he makes a damn good mod by doing what he does. Forgive me for my belief that he doesn't need my approval.

Secondly, I think you've lost your f***ing mind. You would do damn well to realize that the post you just made is an example of why I have such little faith in people. If I get banned for this post, for showing my disappointment in someone I thought knew better, then so be it.

And finally, how dare you. I understand that you aren't expected to be polite, but it would be pretty nice to see you match Rosie, Xero, Zed, or Tsang in such an aspect. They are some damn good examples of how human beings should act. They are the kind of people my respect goes to: those with the humility to return it. You won't make yourself look any better by proving me right.

This post is not trolling, flaming, or minimodding. This is a response to a comment made by you. Just you. I'll be damned if I let you make an ass out of me and I just let it happen. If anything happens because of it, you will bear the weight of it as heavily as I do.

EDIT: I have a headache right now, so if there is a response that is polite, wait till tomorrow, so I can respond on equal terms.

You think it's your "duty" to mini-mod even though that's actively breaking a rule in the process.

When you got an infraction from hewitt for following general moderation guidelines, you publicly whined about it in the chat thread and called it "fishy". That's another rule broken.

When I warned you to stop mini-modding, you tried to explain why you thought it was okay and then continued doing it, as if what I said didn't matter because you disagreed with it.

That's all pretty fucking disrespectful, so who do think you are asking how dare I get frustrated with your bullshit? Give me a reason to respect you and maybe I will, but until then this is all a result of YOUR behavior, not because I lack humility or whatever the fuck you think this is. Get over yourself.

I've been wondering about this for a while. Do you get chosen to be moderator or something?

I'll just give a straightforward explanation on the ideal image that I think would make a good moderator.

I believe the ideal person to become a mod is someone who's helpful, active, and mature. Not only that, but has a likable and comfortable personality and a positive and fullfilling attitude on the forums and other areas and locations of the site. This person enjoys organizing events and is always there to lend a helping hand. This person also reports posts that violates the forum's rules regularly, and isn't afraid to speak their mind when it comes to discussing about several topics.

Of course not everyone does these to become a mod. This is just my image showcasing the properties of what would make an excellent mod, but these are all elements that could consider someone worthy of becoming one.
