Hello guys..

Please don't blame me for the "stupid" question. I've had a BIG break of animating flash stuff from 2009-ish untill now.. i've seen /read on alot of topics where they animate on like 27-30 fps.. Back in my days (lol) we used to animate at like 20-24 fps (single frames).
Since when is it normal to animate at 27 or even 30 fps? and do you guys animate double-framed or only single framed? And at what fps do you animate /prefer to animate (single/double framed) ?

I'm still animating at 20fps (only single frames).. like back in the days haha (but i want to go up to 24.. ).

Simple answer. Go to 24.

Higher frame rates allow for smoother animation, but it's all a personal preference really.

I hear most animators simply copy and paste frames (double framing as you said). But in my opinion this is just a thing to be able to say you animate at high fps..

No :/

Double framing is used for easing, anticipation, and force. It is not used as an excuse to say you animate at high frame rates. That's retarded.

I've bought myself a cintiq and now everything i animate at 20 fps looks like slow motion because i'm drawing alot faster alot more sticks in a short period haha :) a reason more to level up to 24 fps. Oh and of course the more fps the smoother but hey.. this is stickman animation not "realistic tv animations" or something like that... i'm just a little bit confused at how i should animate my TTWC part at 27 fps haha.. i think i might need to use the F5 (double framing) key more in the future haha

yes. true. I use doubleframing very rare for stuff like easing as you said.. but at 30 fps you'd have to use double frames like all the time!?

Yes, i will definitly stick to 24 after my big project (at 20fps) is done :)

High framerate doesn't really matter unless you are trying to make something very smooth. You should be able to get a decently smooth animation at 15-16fps if you actually know how to animate, but obviously higher framerates and more frames translates into smoother movement.
This is something you will have to think about, does it fit your style? Will it actually make a difference for you?
If yes, then go ahead and use 30fps, if not just do whatever the fuck you are comfortable with.

No you wouldn't.

As far as realism is concerned, you're right. It doesn't have to be realistic because technically it isn't real. Then again everything has to follow a code pf physics and unless you successfully convey in your animations why you're making everything intentionally look like shit then it isn't going to matter. While you're sitting here thinking about realism and how it is irrelevant in animation go ahead and reference back to old movies or cartoons and pay attention to the obvious computer edited features and compare them with present time movies and animation. Using the whole "It's make believe and doesn't have to be smooth or follow animation principles" is a bull shit excuse for lack of skill and just makes you look that much more pathetic when you use excuses like that.

Ok ok, i agree with you on this. it's just funny to see how 30 seems to be the new 24. Gotta have to practice to get better skills at higher frame rates :)

Why did you buy a $1000+ tablet for stick figure animation.

it's 999$ lol. Well, first of.. i got the money (duh) and second.. maybe because i'm not only animating sticks with it but i think like " hey, i got a expensiv very good tablet, why not use it also for my stick animations???".

I do digitally drawings, photo edits, FB animations etc. Stickanimation is only a "side use" for the tablet.

i mostly use 30 fps to all of my animations . it makes the movements cooler and better , but i always put duoble framing . :D
