Clan Name: The Pencil is Mightier Than The Sword

Clan Story:

"NO!" Pencillum yelled, as the roof of the clan room collapsed. He raced out of the room, looking around. The other clan rooms seemed intact.
Great. My clan died. He looked around, but all the clans seemed to be full.
Well, if that's what it takes... He entered the room at the end of the hall.

"So, you want to make a new clan?"
"Yep."
"Alright, just fill in this form, and we'll enchant a clan room for you."

Five minutes later, a wizard slammed his staff on the ground. "There you are! Go ahead, make yourself at home..."

And thus a new clan was created.


Clan Members:

Pencillum "The Lead" (merich1)


Clan Allies/Rivals:

None. Yet. We'll be neutral unless you give us a good reason otherwise.


Clan Events:

A tourney! Will be hosted! When we have four members!

(I'll probably host some special events every month or so.)


Clan Policies:

1. Every week, post something meaningless on the thread so that I know you're still alive. PM me if you're going to be away from the clan for whatever reason and I will excuse you from this rule for a duration.
2. Follow ALL forum rules. Always.
3. Participation in any event is OPTIONAL, but you MUST participate in at least one of every "group" of events. A "group" will usually consist of 3 events, but there will be deviations.
4. Failure to follow a rule will result in a WARNING. Failure to follow a rule again after the warning will result in a VOTE. If a majority of the other members agree to kick you, you will become a Clan Vegetable and will have no other association with the clan other than being a Clan Vegetable.


Clan Tryouts:

Write a piece at least 500 words long (no maximum) about a fight with your wRHG and ALL of the current members of our clan at the same time. (Basically, a "Gladiator vs Clan" battle.) If we reject you the first time you can always try again. Anyone can join.

I will not seek any members. The members must come to me.
(I realize this drastically influences my ability to get any members at all, but this is an official policy.)

Am I correct in guess that anyone can join a wRHG clan, and that the wRHG clan members help each other develop their writing skills?

If I was correct so far, then I have another question: Is this clan still alive, and if it is, may I join it?

I tried to write it, but Pencillum is hard to write with the Undefeated One. The Undefeated One is intensely dramatic, but Pencillum was always more on the humorous side; The Undefeated One has borne the burden of a curse for millions of millennia, and wears the skins of great beasts he has defeated.

Pencillum is more of a happy-go-lucky humour fighter, and these two styles are hard to mix together in the same story; should I be serious, from the Undefeated One's point of view, or should I write in a relaxed sense, and allow Pencillum to seem more real and likable?

I found that I was unable to do both. I can't take Pencillum seriously when I write seriously; I can't take the Undefeated One seriously when I write casually. That means I can't fit them into the same story, not without taking away some points from the story, at any rate.

You can be serious and funny at the same time.

Well, I still like to write in multiple viewpoints. If I were you I would write half the story seriously from the Undefeated One's viewpoint and half the story humorously from Pencillum's viewpoint. However, I don't know if that's your style. Like Triss said, I guess you could try for humorous and serious at the same time...

Well, it's because I suck at comedy that I turn to drama, but I also think its the style I'm writing in that makes light humour that Pencillum uses difficult to write out.

I copied my style from a Chinese author, Xiong Yaohua, better known by pen name Gu Long (Ancient Dragon).

He was a master of repeatedly using words with the same meaning and unnecessary spacings, originally to earn more money from his writing, but gradually he built up this style to write suspense-filled WuXia novels.

Wikipedia put this in words far better than I did: His novels are usually made up of short sentences and paragraphs, and mostly dialogues between characters like a play script.

I'm trying to recreate that style, but I don't really see a way to fit much humour into it; most sentences are written heavily. The only humour I can think of that would fit well with this style is black humour, but that sort of humour is so hard to fit into someone like Pencillum that I gave up...

Thanks for the idea, Merich1, I really appreciate it; but I write from a fly-on-the-wall point of view so that the reader never knows exactly what will happen next, building more suspense. Also, as a nice added bonus, the characters seem more godlike from a distance than up close.

I have the opposite problem here :)
I suck at drama, so my drama turns into comedy, as in it's laughable to the point where you can actually LAUGH at it.

Well, clans are supposed to help you prosper and increase your writing ability. Do your best with the tryout, and try to incorporate your weak points, even if it's subliminally. It shows where people can help you and how you do in uncomfortable situations.
