I think it would make everyone happy if we replaced the use of rape, with the classier word raipé.

Try to say it to street thugs. "I will raipé you."
That sure sounds convincing.

Or classy.

I'm with Camila on this one, it's simple misuse of the word comparable to misuse of the word "epic". It was never really that funny, it's immature (and maybe a bit insensitive to some), but other than that it's just people demonstrating their mediocre vocabularies, so it's not really something to get upset or angry about.

Well obviously the people that use the word are using it as a different connotation and don't actually mean "rape"... just like when you call someone gay you're not saying they're actually gay =/ problem solved

Rape is the new smurf.
So how about me and you rape out and rape ourselves a drink before we go rape?

Even the person who started the thread is aware that they're using it in a different context, that's not even what this thread is about. The discussion is whether or not it's appropriate.

You do notice I wasn't even serious. Don't go out teaching me what the thread is about, because I am very well aware of that.

That's a subjective question; it depends on the reader. Probably, whoever reads it won't care at all, and will understand that it's being used without malice. Maybe they've been raped themselves and might get offended by it? Then again, maybe they have grown to not care when people misuse a simple word...

Bottom line is, if you are afraid of being offended you shouldn't be on the internet to begin with.

Aren't a lot of words misused nowadays?
Epic usually means a long poem that describes or celebrates legend, and alot of people I know say wicked when they mean good, which is the exact opposite of the words meaning.
Gay is also somewhat a misused word, since we all know what it actually means but a lot of people use it as an insult.
Often the verbal description of a word differs from the physical action.

Just like the word thread is supposed to mean a thread of something (ie. string). But we use it for topics.

The use of rape is a social communicational convention. Even though I don't use it, embrace it. Until it disappears at least.
