is it really not obvious that it's a cheaper alternative to the 3DS? why would anyone buy both of them?

It's aimed towards the younger demographic, I hear. So cheaper and less likely to break.

why you hating now i can afford to get pokemon x and y LOL
but seriously this is a good idea. i wont pay a crazy amount of money for 3 good 3ds games.
but $120 i would. thats the price of 3 games new and ill end up getting an r4 to download em for $10
money to be spent well

2DS simply increases Nintendo's Monopoly on Handhelds

I'm pretty excited about the 2DS. I might be able to afford it instead of the 3DS.

I love how the video brags about backwards compatibility, online stuff and taking it where-ever you want.
Oh jee whizz, I bet my Nintendo 3DS could never do such great things.

I'm pretty sure I have.

It's obviously targeted to kids. Being released on the same day Pokemon is, no easily breakable hinge, no 3d, and being cheaper that the regular 3DS all point to that. It's a good idea. I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.
