Whether it be Monopoly, Clue, Pandemic, Arkham Horror, or Shadows Over Camelot, there's always one or two things that annoy the shit out of you. It's the one where you would almost always want to exclude as a House rule when you're hosting or cringe when someone else's game refuses to block it to play "the way it was meant to be played". I'm just going to list the most common I've found, but if you have more feel free to share:

The Nuke - a super-OP card or board space or item that when triggered, wipes out the target or everyone and their resources with no means of coming back strong.

Exact Dice Moving - The value of your dice roll is the amount of actions you get per turn. Also mechanics where you must only move THAT amount of spaces. So like in Clue, even if you wanted to enter a room you had to use all the spaces on the die you rolled.

CatchUp or the Equalizer - a cheap mechanic that gives the losing player or the guy in last place a chance to get ahead of the pack. Note that I'm referring to mechanics where it actualy becomes more beneficial to BE in last place just so you can acquire this gamebreaker.

Skip a Turn - Natch. A mechanic that potentially leaves you in the dust because of bullshit chance.

Proper Placement - Most egregious in Parcheesi and Trivial Pursuit. It's the fact that you have to have the EXACT amount of spaces to land somewhere. Screw the fact that you answered over 50 questions. If you don't land on the final space you lose.

Work for Nothing - Spending a TON of hours setting up the action with the greatest benefit only to have the final move screw you over because of CHANCE.

So what's your most annoying Board/Card Game Mechanic. It can be anything, even specific rules for specific games. Feel free to share them here.

You question chance. Isn't that central to most board games? Kind of like the point of it?

Not when the chance is exploitable or makes no sense.

A game of Monopoly can last for hours, which is why I don't play it that often.

Immunity in Monopoly is especially annoying, but fun if you play it in a full 8-player game and no one notices that you just bargained immunity for every property. I died from Luxury Tax XD
