im fairly new but i think i grasp all the mechanics (not strategies) of this game except one. ive asked some coaches i played but am still not sure i know the answer. is there armor in this game? a thread recently mentioned (with respect to giants) getting armor-piercing... flying order dudes as a counter. also in the help guide, from when i played the single player, i remember it saying something about armor piercing in the flying dudes section. everyone i ask says, there is no armor (or they say yes but then say they didn't mean anything distinct from health). is there armor? another way of putting it, does each unit do the exact same damage to every other unit type? for example, do flying order dudes do the same damage to giants and speartons and swords and archers? if so, what the hell does armor piercing mean? most RTS games have health AND armor but everyone keeps telling me no, but then the comment in the help guide makes no sense to me.

thanks in advance for any clarification. ive tried to test this but my eyes are crap and those tiny green bars on the giants and speartons, i just cant tell. sorry for being a noob.

Ah hey go0 remember me? :P

No, this is a completely valid question, and the answer to it is, yes, there is armor in this game, and some units have it while others dont. (though we do not know if some armors are stronger than others)

Some units, like speartons, juggers, albows, marrows, and deads have an armor factor, which reduces damage from certain attacks.

Armor piercing attacks known are, boulders, blast (magikill), electric wall, blazing bolts (albowtross), hell fists, and chaos tower among others. These attacks pretty much ignore the armor factor, and do the right amount of damage they should.

Proof that armor exists:
It takes 43 arrows to kill a spearton, and 7 to kill a swordwrath
Alternatively, it takes 17 blazing bolts to kill a spearton, and 4 to kill a sword wrath.

Its takes 9 boulders to kill a spearton, and 13 to kill a shadowwrath, but speartons can normally tank alot more arrows than shadows can.

thanks!! finally, peace of mind. and yes, i remember you, i was waiting for you to show on that alt account of yours so i could ask but i haven't seen you :) so i figured id ask here. would love to pick your brain if you wouldnt mind adding me some time, go0176 447. i was pretty sure there was armor but ive asked some great players, ranked and everything, and have yet to get an answer that put me at ease.

seems like the existence of "different" types of armors could be tested, no? anyone ever tabulate the # of attacks from each unit to each other type of unit? its somewhat strange to me, that this whole concept is undocumented - its so important! i honestly cant figure how people cant stand playing not knowing, its the kind of thing that would drive me nuts. anyway if you ever want to waste an hour, im happy to create that table with you. 64 matchups, seems do-able to me, and im not sure its even necessary to have EVERYONE kill giants. lets not upgrade their health at least =)

i guess thats just order. but if there arent different types there, id be surprised if chaos had them or if order armor was treated differently by chaos units.

Theres a rule here against multiposting so it would be smart to delete these posts and edit it onto your reply.

and, i think some people have created those charts, their just hidden in some secretive clan website :P Maybe if you asked some of them they could show it to you :/

Ill add you, and maybe we can play some games later. oh god different levels of armor :/ sounds rough.

Armour reduces damage from most sources of damage.

Giant Boulders and rage ignore armour (I believe) as do all spells.

Blazing Bolts Albowtrosses do extra damage to armoured units.

Armoured units are Deads, both Giants, Albowtrosses, Speartons and Juggerknights.

So are marrows armored?

And do giant boulders do extra damage because it takes more hits to kill a shadowrath.

I don't think they are. Although, one thing I just thought of is: is the statue armoured?

I don't think so. It just has more health than everything else.

So it takes normal damage from arrows and blazing bolts, but it seems shinobi does way less damage against the statue, and giant boulders to extra damage.

Well it seems that whether a unit is armoured or not depends on the sound effect it makes when struck by a projectile. Since the statue makes its own unique sound effect, is it possible then that the statue has its own health class that is unlike armour or unarmoured? If it is, then this raises the question as to why miner walls and towers don't have this supposed "structure" health kind.
