Are you kidding me? I love his ult. It does tons of damage, has a decent knock up, great escape and initiation.
Speaking of Sion though I find him just terrible in top lane. He's by far better in the jungle.
A friend of mine do Darius and Sion botlane. We've lost once out of 8 matches.

Darius and Sion bot, with a sprinkling of my Zac jg every now and then lol. So much CC it's hysterical. Darius' apprehend leads to a sion q which leads to a zac e and ulti. while sion bursts his w and darius w's. Finish it all with a healthy dose of Darius ultis for a triple to pentakill XD.
Sion's ulti is by far the best escape I have ever seen. Similar to Malphite's but quintiple the range lol. If you do it right, that thing is a boss initiation as well, of course aim is everything.
I'm just putting in my information because hell why not lol.
NA Server: Solisticeofdeath (Yes I know i spelled Solstice wrong hahaha dumb me)
Best champs: Cho'Gath, Zac (Favorite champs: Whoever I can have fun with lol)
Roles: Cho top or mid, Zac jg

I've been playing on the LAN servers lately and I have to say having 50 ping is fucking glorious compared to NA 150.

the ult is incredibly difficult to steer and exceptionally easy to dodge. you literally only have to sidestep it and sion just goes barreling past you like a retard.

you can deactivate it, but i don't think it knocks them up unless you're pretty much on top of them.
