It seems like you can enter this 'low priority queue' for being afk/leaving too many games.

I was just laggy though. Lag to the point you can't do shit.

Queued up for draft pick, enemy team bans fizz immediately. I crack a smile and ban Zed and Leblanc. Knowing my top threats have all been eliminated I choose Vel and end up facing Talon. He's still good against Vel, he has a lot of the mechanics that normally spell trouble for this champion. Like high burst, gap closing and escapes. Since he was AD I went with a morellinomicon instead of a chalice, then Liandries torment and Rylai's scepter, standard stuff.

Early laning was tough as always, had to take vision control and play safely. You can't expect things to really go well as Vel'Koz until you get some items. But as always his farming is good and I just tried to make my trades with talon fairly even. I'm getting more and more convinced that teleport is the best secondary spell to take with this champion. Just for what it provides you early game. The ability to give one last wave clear to get minions off your turret so you can go shop and be back in time to stop the next wave is nice. Especially if the enemy decides to stay in lane during that time. Then they have to deal with your new items.

My only death came from early game, I was farming near my turret, as I prefer to do. VI and Talon got impatient and went ham on me under my own turret. Talon killed me, but it cost VI's life. Then I went on an 8 kill spree all game.

I'm learning about what this characters strengths really are now. He can siege well with his poke and wave clear, my lane is always pushed when I want it to be. Even though I prefer to farm closer to my turret. Kiting backwards allows him to really make use of every skill shot he has, I've slowly been realizing that Vel'Koz isn't safe to chase and if I don't get caught with my pants down I can cause a hellish time for my pursuers.

So his siege ability is great, but he's stronger moving backwards than forwards, I've been able to defend my own turret from 4 enemy players and by the time my team shows up, I realize. Wow, the enemy team has really low HP, just from trying to land my skill shots to keep them off my turret. Being able to slaughter minion waves discourages the enemies from coming at me under turret and by that stage of the games I have some items so my damage is impressive and they need to respect it.

It's not just turrets either, he grants really great control over objectives. So it's important to quickly push lane and help dragon or baron. If the enemy team steps into river to fight over it, they're choosing to be funneled, thus greatly increasing the usefulness of your ultimate. So it's important to stay in the back row, control vision to prevent assassination and pick your spots. Which requires a fair amount of skill and map awareness.

So as Vel'Koz I play better when teammates realize I shouldn't participate too much in risky dives and the like, as if I do I will almost certainly be focused, CC'd out of my ultimate, assassinated, or in some other way dealt with. It's imperative to be extremely patient as this champion. As such I only go in on those types of plays if I'm positive I'll be making our team come out on top in those situations. I'm still willing to sacrifice myself to secure a victory, but it's a bit outside this champions comfort zone.

It's nice to play a champion and be able to see their strengths, not just their weaknesses, which Vel has plenty of both.

I can honestly say I do not know how to play Vel, but a good vel'koz can cause me a hellish time in lane so I know that he's not a bad character. Props to you for figuring him out.

I wouldn't say I've figured him out exactly, so much as I'm figuring him out. I'm really glad I decided to get into this champion, but my first games with him were really bad. I'm talking 0/10/2 bad.

But yeah, he isn't bad. He just isn't very...meta? He's low mobility, limited CC, no escapes/chases. He doesn't have a lot in common with popular champions.

I guess the point is more that I enjoy him and find him stimulating to play more than any other mid laner. Which is nice since I prefer to play my lulu top lane anyways.

Have you tried him botlane yet? A "support" Vel'Koz is hellish on a botlane.

Nami is best support.

I have honestly thought lulu was always overrated because everyone I know is just like "Lulu is the best support" and I'm just sitting here locking in Nami.

I main support Nami. But I main lulu top. Lulu is not the best support, objectively. Right now the best support is probably Janna.

When I'm on skype with aquila and he comes in for a gank and is like "Hey man if you can land an aqua prison, or your ultimate" as I land both of them. Very satisfying champion to play. But also enough skill dependent that I can stand constantly playing as her.

Also, just took my Vel'Koz into ranked. 4/0/6 with highest farm in the game.
I main him mid now, especially if I get to choose the bans.

Preaching to the choir, I'm sure we could trade some seriously fucked up stories.

Veigar is really badass, if played right. Pathetic if played poorly. I don't really know how to play as him, but I know enough about him to respect his kit. How is he without DFG?

The Vel'Koz game I was against ahri. As usual early game she could out trade me blah blah blah, Vel'Koz early isn't great. I was out farming her though and her aggressive orb tossing allowed me to farm super close to turret, making ganking me impossible.

After my first back, got my chalice. It was basically game over, she couldn't easily trade me anymore. My whole team was fucking destroying *aquila playing as graves, having a near identical score to mine*. But I basically tentacle raped ahri. She ended 1/6/0 with the worst score in the game. With only 83 cs to my 138 and 3 levels behind me. 4.7k gold to my 8.7k.
At that point my Liandries Torment made me so melty. They forfeited before I could finish my Rylais.

Without DFG he's still epic. I beat a Zed in lane which is near impossible and made me hate my life for quite a while.
However his infinite stacks eventually beat any enemy (I started the game 1/5/0 and ended 11/9/3 or something like that)

Basically, how to play veigar:
Farm minions
Get level 6
Win.

When it comes to facing him, I obsess over vision control *normal for me*. Keep tabs on his location, if he's 6 avoid him like the plague. Since if he lands his stun he can 1v1 anyone with few exceptions. I haven't faced him as Vel'Koz yet. It should be interesting since my range is so spectacular. But he gives my lulu a hard time, that's for sure.

Velk CAN beat veigar. You want to know what the MOST important thing against a veigar is?
Zone deny. Malzahar will beat Veigar down any day of the weak because he can just say "NO FARM FOR YOU" with all of his AoE spells.
Velk can do the same.
