Why did Sebastian join ActaSanctorum? - Nobody asked
This is just a little more insight into my character's backstory and it will at least answer a question that might pop up in the battle against Kyra that I will be posting either tomorrow or on the 1st of April (I mean it, despite the meaning of this day XD)
Here's the Google Doc
And here's the spoiler for those who can't open them:
hips survive through various battles, ionic storms, crew losses, solar blasts and traps, only to be destroyed because an enemy ship managed to take out my weapons at the right time was heartbreaking, but still fun.
I quit FTL: Faster Than Light and turned off my computer.
Daicilus was already sleeping, so the silence of the dark room was only broken by the sound of rain falling down on my blinds like there was no tomorrow.
In bright red numbers, 3:19 was visible from my European alarm clock. Guess I played a bit too long. I was getting ready to lie down in bed and let my mind float away to lands only possible in the wildest corners of my imagination when, adding to the sound of rainfall; I heard a knock on my blinds. Figuring it was just my imagination; I tucked myself in my blankets and curled up to my right, trying to fall asleep.
Not even a minute had passed when the knocking repeated itself: Five quick knocks; these ones a bit harder than before.
Jumping out of my bed slowly, I carefully leaned onto the wall right next to the window for safety and reeled the blinds in.
It revealed a young man with his feet just barely on the ledge, bending himself forward to keep his balance, his face glued to the glass, accompanied by a wide grin. He was trying to get in.
Sadly, I knew him, and despite not liking him, I knew he wouldn’t look for me without a reason, so I opened the window and he jumped right in.
Water was dripping from everywhere out of the man. It seemed like he had been in the rain for hours, every bit of him was drenched, wetting the wooden floor around where he was standing and yet, it didn’t seem to bother him.
I hadn’t seen him in three years, but he hadn’t changed a bit: average build, short black hair, big nose and a bit taller than me. He must be 19 now.
- Kind of late for a visit, don’t you think Tito? How did you find me?
The wet man simply shrugged, as if he really had no clue as to how he had found me and really didn’t care to figure out. In his strong Italian accent, the man answered.
- I don’t know… I just did. I felt like you would be around one direction and you were. Nice city by the way.
- Let me rephrase what I said then: Why did you look for me?
Tito leaned his head behind looking at my room’s ceiling, trying to remember the reason why he came here:
- Oh, right. Uh… Perché sono venuto qui (Why did I come here)? – After a few moments of pause, something in Tito changed. His posture became a less relaxed one and his expression was more serious. – Sonia is still alive!
He suddenly claimed, even though it wasn’t really exactly him. Tito was also part of the 12 Cursed Noble Families: the Monferatti; one of the Italian ones.
He can’t be serious.
- You have been fooled, Caissadon. There’s no way she can be alive. – I immediately confirmed, already looking away.
- But she is! – Insisted Tito’s demon with confidence, smirking once again – I saw her!
- Most likely a double. –I sighed disappointed and annoyed, glancing at him before continuing – If you don’t have anything else to say then please leave my room. Seeing you doesn’t exactly bring me any good memories. And you’re soaking up the floor. Addio. – I rudely pointed.
This man didn’t deserve politeness.
I was about to walk back to my bed when Tito regained control and claimed with his right arm touching his chest:
- She attacked us a while ago, along with five other people; I was about to meet Carlos when that happened. Awesome fight. Managed to keep out of sight. If I had gone to help him, I would have died alongside him.
The drenched man’s words froze me halfway through the step in shock. Carlos is dead? That man was the only one I knew who actually had some control over his power. He was nearly invincible! No one could even get near him. How is it that he lost to only six people!?
An image of the first time I met him crossed my mind: a tall, slightly tanned man with long brown hair, big brown eyes, about thirty years old, at least when I was thirteen, and a muscled build. He always wore a dark glove on his right hand, along with a sleeve of the same colour that covered his whole arm. That man was the first one who managed to stop me; a really talkative person who was rather comprehensive towards others.
He never told me from which family he was.
I lowered my head and wished for Carlos’ suffering to be as eased as it could be.
Other questions started appearing in my mind, bothering me greatly: how powerful were those people? And what was Sonia doing with them?
Widening my eyes, I looked at him, now more worried than shocked. I raised my tone of voice and asked him, demanding an answer:
- How did he die? And are you sure Sonia was with them?
Tito smiled, like he had just accomplished something; but he answered:
- Carlos died smashing one of the guys’ skull into the ground before a second one shot something that caused an explosion, knocking him unconscious, and a third one fired a whole clip on his head. Not a pretty sight. I only know Sonia is with them because I heard her talking about us. Stuff only she would know. I heard her talking about that day when yo-
- Ok! I believe you… just, don’t mention that… please. – I interrupted him, quickly raising my hand to form a signal of a stop.
- She’s looking for you Seb. – Tito’s grin grew bigger by the second – And she will find you. You know how she is… She never gives up.
He had a point. One of the most noticeable traces of her was her stubbornness. It was impossible to talk her out of something when her mind was set on it.
I looked down and pondered for a few seconds while walking around the room. If what Tito said is true… then I need to get to her first. It will be impossible to talk sense into her if she’s trying to place a bullet in my head, she just won’t listen. I need to find her before she finds me. I need to explain Sonia why…
Looking back at him, in a couple of steps I was already face to face with him again, quickly asking, worry being something easily seen in my eyes:
- How long ago was that attack?
Tito looked at the ceiling again, this time not even a full second passed before he faced me again:
- You think I keep track of time? I haven’t done that in ages. I only know it took me a ton of days to find you. – He responded, as if someone expecting him to keep a minimal notion of time was like asking for the moon.
My initial urge was to choke him until he spat out an answer, but then I realized that he wasn’t lying. He had been corrupted by Caissadon’s influence, but he was honest: brutally honest; rudely honest, but honest.
I sighed once again, loudly this time as I tried to calm myself.
There was one more question unsettling me that I wanted to see answered:
- Why are you telling me this? Certainly you didn’t do this out of sympathy.
He seemed to have been expecting that question; the smile he gave me was so big and psychotic that, at the moment, it was impossible for me to discern whether it was either Tito or Caissadon speaking.
- I want to see you kill her. But not just end her life, I want you to try and stop yourself from doing it, give it your all, look at her and know you were unable to do anything as you rip her apart like a piece of paper. That’s why I told you. I’ll see you somewhere else.
Chuckling in the end, he jumped out of the window he had came from, back to the storm that was raging outside.
Of course, that’s what he wanted.
I wanted to think that he was trying to fool me, I wanted to call “bullshit” on it, but I couldn’t. Both of us respected Carlos a lot so I know he wouldn’t lie about that. I also hid my tracks pretty well when I decided to come to the wRHG so I’m sure he wouldn’t even bother to search for me if it wasn’t actually important.
I sat on my bed.
May your suffering be as eased as it is possible, Master. – I thought to myself
I remained immobile, frozen, mourning my sensei’s death and digesting the fact that Sonia is still alive and determined to kill me.
It is safe to say that I didn’t sleep that night. I only managed to lay on my bed after a couple of hours. Being tucked in my own bed lets me think better.
How the hell did she survive? I’m sure my hand pierced through her heart, I remember the incident clearly, way too clearly. There had to be someone around to even give her a chance of survival.
I clutched my head tightly
Fuck! Why did she have to survive? Why couldn’t I just live with the guilt of having killed her? Why must I have her chase me down like a monster? Why!?
I laid there minute upon minute without end.
But the real question was: how would I find her? I had nothing to start my search with and leaving the wRHG area for a long period of time was ill advised, given my lack of self-control.
Even worse than that was the fact that if I did find her, would she even listen to me? I guess I had to at least try.
It was that thought that made me reach a realization. There was a certain cartoon that I knew it was skilled with technology, at least more than I was. Maybe Lexel could help me.
Getting out of bed in one quick jump, I hurriedly walked to his workshop, darting my way through the crowd that was in the Artwork Avenue at all times, ignoring the complaints of the ones I ended up bumping against until I entered a shady back alley between two tall buildings. The sunlight rarely reached this area and the smell of urine was intense, along with the usual beer bottles and homeless men lying around. At the end of it a big wooden sign with the letters “DoD” was displayed, alongside with its actual meaning just below, “Destruction on Demand”.
That’s where I found the cartoon painted in black from top to bottom, along with great part of his labor area. Natakzusen was just now regaining consciousness, grunting.
- Uh…What just happened here? – I asked in a mixture of confusion and surprise, completely forgetting to greet him.
- …ugh… goddamnit, not enough potassium chlorate… – he mumbled to himself not noticing my presence – This explosive needs a little more kablooey– oh hey Sebastian! Back for another weapon?
Going along with Lexel’s effort to act natural, despite the accident, I replied:
- Not a weapon. I wanted to ask you if you are capable of helping me find someone.
- Just search 'em up on the web; cyber criminals do it all the time!
- Sadly, although I would love to know how to, I have no clue on how to do that.
A light chuckle couldn’t be held within Lexel:
- Well, I'm assuming the person we're looking for doesn't have a Facebook? That wouldn't make everything easier.
Sebastian couldn't help but smirk at the suggestion of using Facebook to find her.
- I don't use social networks. So I can't tell you if she does.
- Then I guess you'll just have to tell me everything you know, and I'll see what I can do.
I paused for a moment and pondered. I couldn’t tell him everything I knew about her obviously, but how much would I have to say?
- Very well, the person I am looking for is named Sonia Maria de Lobo Melo. She’s the same age as me, she has long brown hair, hazel is the colour of her eyes, slim, at least when I met her, and of pale skin. We’re both Portuguese. Is that enough?
The cartoon shrugged:
- That’s a start, why do you even want to find her in the first place?
This is what I wanted to avoid, questions.
- I… need to talk to her… - My eyes looked elsewhere as I replied, full of regret for my past actions.
- You make it sound like something bad happened between you two. Bad breakup?
I glared at him for a second. Can’t this guy take a hint?
- No… I… I killed her…
- Ah! – The cartoon voiced in understanding – Wait! Then how come –
- Someone told me she was alive! – I interrupted, raising my voice slightly before returning to my saddened tone – Please! Don’t make me talk about it more than I have to… it’s a bit sensitive.
- O.K, O.K, so in reality I’m just going to look for you ex-girlfriend, huh? – A chuckle came out of him. He was trying to lighten up the mood by making fun of the situation, but that reaction had me seriously ponder grabbing one of the weapons he had laying around the shop and stab him in the head. In the end, I classified it as another of Daicilus’ attempts to influence my actions, and besides, it’s not like he was wrong. Sonia would probably not want to have anything else to do with me, and I didn’t exactly have any sort of hopes for otherwise anyway, I just wanted to explain to her why I did what I did.
With an even gloomier look, I couldn’t even look the cartoon in the eyes, so I gazed to the side, starting to fade of into the world of thoughts when he spoke once more:
- Don’t worry, I’ll look into it. You’ll be able to solve your lover’s quarrel soon enough.
Refocusing my attention on the gunblader, I smiled softly at him:
- Thank you, Lexel. Truly. If there’s anything else you need to find her, don’t hesitate to ask me. Just your attempt at doing so means a lot to me. And if there’s any way I can repay you for your aid, do tell me; I will gladly try my best to fulfill your request.
Pondering for a moment, Nataksuzen soon started looking for something furiously:
- Just give me a sec, I know I left it somewhere around this bloody place…
The search continued for about a minute and even though I offered to help, I had no idea what he was looking for until, he gave a victory shout, bringing a piece of paper high up in the air, as if he had found an item in an old school role-playing game before addressing me:
- You know the Writer’s Lounge will be completed shortly, right?
Lexel looked at the paper as I nodded in acknowledgement.
- Well I was wondering if – The cartoon then turned the form towards me – you would like to join my soon-to-be clan, ActaSanctorum? I sure could use a copy of the Executioner.
Deciding to ignore that comment, I grabbed the document and raised an eyebrow:
- Lexel, have you thought this through? It’s dangerous to be around me in the first place and you want me to part of a clan?
Taking it as just a simple, unimportant detail, the gunblader shrugged it off:
- I’ll be fine, don’t worry. I can’t die, remember? – He then mumbled to himself – Though it might hurt like hell… I need to install some sort of safety measures, just in case…
- Excuse me? – I asked, trying to understand what he just said
- Nothing, nothing important. I was just… thinking about elephazebras.
- Elephazebras? – Did he expect me to buy that?
- Elephazebras! I’m on a double dose of crazy, don’t ask. Also, the stuff’s legal, I think.
I didn’t even want to know…
- In any case, what about the other two potential members? – I continued
- You can’t win a 3v1, can you?
- What if Daicilus catches one of them alone?
- Have’ em call 911 and hope they don’t put’ em on hold.
- Seriously?
Another moment of pause was taken by Lexel.
- Let’s do it like this then. Take joining the clan as the way to repay this “debt”. You will only need to be in it until I find your Ex. If after whatever you need to sort out with her is finished you may leave if you still think it’s too dangerous. How does that sound?
I sighed:
- I have one more question.
Nataksuzen raised his eyebrow in an exaggerating manner.
- How do I know you will not purposely delay the search for Sonia so I will be available to the clan for longer?
- What, you don’t trust me? – He claimed, smiling
- I can’t exactly truly trust anyone. I have been fooled way too many times.
- Then I’ll let you in on a little secret. You can end my immortality b

- Then I’ll let you in on a little secret. You can end my immortality b

SJCRPV, you've come a very long way in a very short amount of time, and for that, I commend you.
I'll diffidently be keeping up on this, and the ending got a pretty big smirk out of me!

I agree with Dan; you've improved so much since you started! Anyways, I was actually wondering about what your gladie was talking about in your battle. Anyways, this was an awesome and entertaining story. I really enjoyed the interactions of the characters and Seb's thoughts :3
I hope to see what you plan for him

Yay! Another cookie!

Indeed, I should have referred people to this thread as well. I was kind of in a rush when I created it. I'll do that now.
And thank you to both of you : )
Though Crank, you want to know what helped speed up this always ongoing process that it is improvement? Yours, Hewitt's and Loboto's (even if the one I'm thinking about wasn't even directed at me XD) CnC.
They were and still are a great help. I thank you (and the others) for that.
I just hope I don't stop :3

Wow, this was truly a great read SJCRPV. I haven't been here very long, I know, but your writing skills are amazing, and I hope to see you improve on even the smallest things to make every word you type, perfect. : )

I don't really know you but you're a fellow writer so hey. Haha.
Just read the fight between you and Aiman (from your signature) and I have to admit, it's pretty good.
But this isn't the place to talk, so let's move it somewhere else.
