So I've been watching some gameplay for the Silent Hill P.T. Demo that just came out. For those who don't know, it's apparently a demo for a new Silent Hills game coming out on the PS4, I don't know when though. Because of the next-gen graphics and everything else, it's been suddenly getting a whole lot of hype. I've been watching the gameplay, and I think so far it actually is living up to the hype it's getting. The graphics are wonderful, the horror is rejuvenated and the gameplay looks so smooth. If this is only the demo, I'm kind of excited to see how the whole game is going to turn out.

Ehh, one thing I didn't like about PT is that at a certain point it just became about mashing the A button everywhere hoping something would happen. It didn't feel that great as a puzzle game. Did scare the living shit out of me, but not when I had to go through the same fifty times trying to figure what the fuck was going on.

Yeah, I didn't particularly like going around in a loop for a half hour and waiting for something else to happen. That could be classified as developer laziness, and the fact that they really wanted to show off the graphics and scare factors above anything else for the upcoming game.

I've heard a lot of good things about Diablo 3, but I've never decidedly went over and bought it.

It's not developer laziness since it's, you know, a teaser. I didn't mind going through the same room, especially considering the environment of the room changed with each rotation. It was definitely creepy and added to the atmosphere. It's more of the design and how to complete PT that I didn't like. It seemed really redundant and a waste of time, and it took away from the experience rather than add to it. I'd rather have a PT where the puzzles are something I could figure out on my own without being fucked up by the environment. That way, I know it's less about luck and more about my own capabilities, even if it's a horror game. They both generally give the same scare, maybe even the "luck" design might scare you more, but after a certain point it becomes much more frustrating and less scary while satisfying design can lead to a better experience.

If you liked Diablo II then III will get old pretty quick. The first act is alright, mainly just due to the nostalgia since it feels pretty close to II and takes place in Tristram. Everything after that is just lazy design work and trying too hard to make the story interesting. My main gripes are;

-The graphics are 'WoWized', more cartoony then D2. This is superficial, but D1 and D2 were pretty gritty for there times. D3 in comparison looks like it was made for children.
-The storyline was utter trash, way over complex for the series and Diablo doesnt even make an appearance or is even mentioned until the end of the game. Diablo games have always had a fairly simple storyline, with a singular main goal established at the beginning. In D3 its like they tried jamming a Final Fantasy style story into a Diablo game. It's just unnecessary and doesn't work very well (aside from the story being shit in the first place).
-Leveling and character progression has been dumbed down so there are no longer stat or skill points to assign, instead you just automatically unlock skills and runes as you level.
-All the acts are pretty much copy/paste from D2, you dont really go anywhere new except
story shiz (Click to Show)

-Loot drops. Originally drops were gimped, so you had no real choice but to buy gear from the Auction House. And of course the good stuff was expencive, so you could purchase gold with real money to buy the top gear. Now its changed, the AH is gone, and loots drops actually drop good loot. Unfortunately the good loot becomes account bound after 24 hours. So any player-player trading is now gone unless you happen to be in a party when find an item.
-Identify and Town Portal are dumbed down. Town Portal is automatic, just a click a button anytime and 5 seconds later your in town. No cost or scrolls required. Same with Identify, just right click an unidentified item and its identified free. And its only needed for legendaries.
-PvP is pretty axed. There is a 'battleground' players can teleport to for PvP, but it either doesnt work atm, or nobody uses it.
-It requires to play online, even in a private 'single player' game. Because of this, the map resets everytime you leave a game, single player or not. Your 'single-player' game is still an online game that other players can drop in and out of whenever you wish.

And before you get it for a console, I've played it on both, and would suggest the PC version, especially if you played D2. If your new and never played 1 or 2 or grew up playing WoW, then none of this stuff probably matters to you.

Ashlander, I agree that PC is more enjoyable. But with your earlier statements:

-I don't think that people can just drop in and out of your game. I think you have to be playing on the multiplayer option. I don't know. I haven't played it in a month or two. Maybe there was an update.

-Personally, everything on my level 57 monk was purchased with irl cash within the auction house. I dish out around 8000 dph with all that pimpin shat. (Primary attacks.)

-I heard a rumor that they got rid of the AH because players were becoming very OPed. Really all you need was twenty bucks and using the insta purchase button, you could get the best gear for your level with no skill involved.

I agree with you on your points, and if it weren't for it being just a teaser, I would be a little worried. However, seeing as it's just a teaser, I'm gonna give the developers the benefit of the doubt that their going to fix most of this stuff. Other than those gripes, though, I have really high hopes for the game itself. What does anybody else think?

I haven't played 1 or 2, but I was told I should probably still get it anyway and be alright. I didn't know if it was based very heavily on the other two in terms of storyline and the like.

You've always been able to toggle on and off letting players join your game. There is no single player option, there's multiplayer, and private multiplayer.

There's no skill involved in it anyway, its all luck. Thats not why they got rid of it, if it was just that they would have just axed the real currency system, and made it game gold only. I preferred the AH system to how it is now. I never spent a dollar on any equipment, and still had top tier equipment for my level. If your not an idiot and sell the good items you find on the AH too, its not hard to keep your equipment up. The new system is anti trading/selling, which leaves nothing to do with your money but upgrade the crafters and craft items (another half-assed new feature I forgot to mention earlier). I reach level 60 a couple weeks ago and have close to a million in my chest because i have nothing to spend it on except crafters, which I dont bother with.

It really doesn't have anything to do with 1 or 2 except for a couple recurring characters and some events from two mentioned briefly in journals and shit you can find along the way. I found the story very poorly thought out and written, and thought they were trying to hard to make a deep storyline.

By skill I meant the skill to kill the crap that drops the loot. Not to get loot as just getting loot. And sorry I meant IG cash but my tablet autocorrect to irl.

Ashlander the game is terrible because everything is dumbed down? To me it isn't, your saying things that are automatic are terrible when they aren't. I find it more useful actually and less annoying to work with in Diablo 3. And where else would you get loot from a garbage can? I mean when you get good item drops shit its satisfying. And btw there are skill points its when you reach level 70. So everything you have said about the game when everything is dumbed down isn't real good way to say the game is crap but when it comes to the story line its completely your opinion but really eveything being dumbed down is not a good excuse to bash a game when they didn't even dumb down everything, your thinking of dumbing down is making things equip automatically, which to me is not dumbing down. But the only problem I have with it is PvP it sucks right now in it. So really you just think it sucks because of its story and if you actually listen to the archives and try to find lore in the game it has alot of story in it you just can't be a lazy ass about it. And dumbing it down is stupid since you think d dumbing down is making things equip for you. but I also do agree with you when you find legendary items after you find something better you can't do much with them.
