I posted this over on the dojo as well but I thought why not post it here too.
Sooo, got a quick question for you.

Does anyone here read or thought about reading comic books?
If so, what would you prefer, a series to read of roughly 15 short books or one big hard covered graphic novel with 100 or so pages ?
(say if the book/series contained a story that was similar to a mix of "Cowboy bebop", "Ghost in the shell", "Vampire Hunter D" and "Metal Gear Solid" with a little "Mass effect" influence (This is as close to the content that I'd like as I can describe lol (AND I'M REFERENCING THE ANIMATED SERIES'/MOVIES SO, TRY TO IMAGINE TRANSFERRING THEM INTO COMIC BOOKS :))))

Just need a little feedback, also what sort of comic book genre is most popular here ?
Super hero ?
Fantasy ?
Romantic ?
Horror ?
Scfi ?
War ?

There's a hole bunch more but those are just some examples.
Let me know what you guys think!
:D

15 short books or one big giant graphic novel honestly depends on the content itself. Some stories favor one style over the other imo.

He actually did write that you pleb.

And i would also like a series of books, with different stories blending over eachother. Like Marvel Superheros :)

But as Raptor says, it really depends on the content and its potential :)

He wrote it as if it was a big comic book with 100 or so pages. Plus the ratio is 4:1 you willy-wanker

"or one big hard covered graphic novel with 100 or so pages ?"

I think he made it clear enough. Atleast for me to see. He did tell the difference between Comic books and Graphic novels.

Oh shit, I just did my googling and found out that graphic novels are usually longer and shiz. I thought that it was just a name for comic books that fedora fags and manchildren came up with. My bad.

I meant it like a graphic novel with a hard cover instead of a regular paper book cover as I've seen a few graphic novels without hard covers.

@Raptor & Julermud
Thanks, and say if the book contained a story that was similar to a mix of "Cowboy bebop", "Ghost in the shell", "Vampire Hunter D" and "Metal Gear Solid" with a little "Mass effect" influence (This as close to the content as I can describe lol)

And I'm with you Cami on the superheroes being my favourite comic book genre :)

That sounds like an awesome love child.

Okay then, my two cents. I personally like the feeling that short volumes have if done correctly. It adds suspense and leaves the readers wanting for more. At the same time, it can also limit your creativity. You shouldn't force yourself to squeeze everything you need to in several volumes when it would flow better in 100 pages or something.

Honestly, the decision to choose between "a series to read of roughly 15 short books or one big hard covered graphic novel with 100 or so pages" should be up to either the creators or an outside person who can read the work before hand. People who haven't seen the work aren't exactly in the position to be able to choose one or the other; readers will enjoy it if it's written well.

Just so we're clear, your first 3 examples are manga. If that was your main point, then this entire thread belongs under Manga discussion. But it appears everyone's acknowledging Graphic Novels so I'll leave this here.

Also fuck Marvel. DC is where it's at.

Thanks Raptor that makes a lot of sense about the outside source reading through the story etc before I start doing anything "artistically". From what I'd like to achieve in regards to the reader and from what you've put, your gearing more towards the graphic novel.
Just put this topic up to see what the potential readers would prefer between the two options in general.

Oh yeah definitely Hewitt, to be honest DC has had more of my attention lately, but I have to say Spider-man will always have my main attention, which will stop me from turning my back on marvel completely, although I agree DC ftw! (atm)

I don't read comic books that much, but my father has a collection on some old Marvel comics during his station in Panama.

I'm more of a DC person than a Marvel person since me and my brother grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and so on. I know much of the DC universe than in the Marvel one, although some of their movies are quite excellent.
