As for your main problem, have you ever tried resetting your preferences for Flash 8? You can do so by performing the keyboard shortcut Shift+Ctrl+Alt. That could do the trick. :)

Thanks for the reply. Glad to know that. Thanks to you I just learned that Adobe bought Macromedia a while back.
