When I was in elementary school Captain Underpants was the shit. The books were so silly and nonsensical... just the way I liked it. I still have a whole collection of those books sitting in my room behind me right now.
But about 6 or 7 years ago I read some book called The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. To this day, there is no book that entertains me as much as that one no matter how many times I read it.

The Deltora Series was probably the first thing that got me into reading, and the Xanth series after that.
Bonus points for "John Dies at the End" for the best title I've ever seen though!
I have every intention of checking out and reading it at some point in my life.
Deltora though, was very full of twists and had several puzzles to their name between the pages. They were all very clever, and I always felt good when I figured it out before checking for the answer!

Sleepovers by Jaquelin Wilson, don't care if it's meant to be for girls, I read that book a million times as a kid.
Watchmen - I actually read it in preparation for the movie, but being about 13 at the time, I didn't get to see the film for a while. By the time I finished the book, I decided the film would probably suck, when I saw the film, I was right. The book is awesome though.
Slaughterhouse 5 - I just love that book, read it a few times, I'll probably read it a few more times.
