Sticksworld - All about 2D Stick Figure Animating

Do you think flip books are fun?

Then Sticksworld is just the right place for you. The world of stick figure animation offers you the materialization of your creative ideas.

Now, I want to familiarize you with the tools you will need for said, help you to master those and carve your path to one of many kind animating communitys you can share your work with.

Hello, my name is Tom and I am one of the ImgWeb developers.

Introduction

The stick animation scene lost its hype a long time ago. Users are way more inactive than before, many of the good animators quit in awhile
and boards become more boring.
In my opinion we need a boom or at least a new breeze to keep our thing alive.

That's why I kicked off a web project named Sticksworld.
Sticksworld is, or is supposed to be a website which "promotes" new animators and helps them to emerge and get in with the manifold repertory of animation communitys.

Furthermore the page should supply ressources, such as tutorials, .fla's, actionscript shatters, .stk's and .piv's which might be helpful for present animators aswell

A Hall of Fame containing the best animations of all time for the purpose of inspiration and motivation is also planned.

So what do you want from us?

In order to get along with this huge-ass project I am looking for...

  • Developers
  • Writers, preferably native speakers (tutorials, general content etc)
  • Pivot/Flash/Styks/EasyToon Animators on an intermediate level
  • Suggestions/Critic/Ideas from beyond
  • People to tell me how awesome I am

Here's to us!

Stickpage is a community. Sticksworld won't be. It would rather be close to stonesbucket, but still isn't since its actual purpose is to get new people to animate.
When you are on the Stickpage Portal you see shit tons of incredible animations which make you think:"I will never be as good as this".
Sticksworlds goal is to make the visitors think:"This page will help me getting this good".
The Website should mainly be a guide to the whole "scene", while Stickpage druther is a part of it.
You mustn't see it as another Stickpage but as a supplement.

I agree with you on new animators needing help and guides. This community, despite the constructive criticism and tips, can be very harsh most times. I understand it is a "tough-love" type deal, but most of the time it is anim bashing with tidbits of "get better or GTFO".

If your site it legitimately commited to helping out new animators, I am all for it

A more beginner friendly forum, eh? I'd say DA is already that, but really, all you get there is "That's really cool" and no real CnC. I agree with Gaaading that the community can be harsh sometimes, but I haven't really seen an animator being shooed away because of all the harsh critique he's getting. Even so, I support this, there may be animators that have incredible potential but are too sensitive for SP.

I suggest a partnership deal with SP. Sticksworld would be a more friendly SP, but when they're ready, they can move here, and get even better.

Users are still plenty active. And we still have a fucking ton of "good animators".

This website just looks like a generic stickfigure website. Just pandering to a younger demographic. Now, granted. There's nothing wrong with that, and if you genuinely feel strongly for this. By all means, go for it. But I do firmly believe we have a fairly stable and largely active community. With new members joining everyday.

Nothing within the userbase has really changed in the years I've been apart of this community. And tutorials and resources can be found at sites just like this one.

Myself. And the other 100,000+ members of this forum have had to "get in with the manifold repertory of animation communities" the same way. It goes back to what I had previously said: Why is there a need for this? If people are getting by fine by using stickpage, or Hyunsdojo, or darkdemon, or newgrounds ect as a learning platform for animation and the different arts associated with it, why the need for a different way to do so? Why fix whats not broken?

Go for it. But I don't think it's imperative, and I don't think it's going to cause a "boom or breeze to keep our thing alive" as, in my opinion. It's not dead, nor dying.

I think you're going about this the wrong way. You're coming into an established and successful stick figure animation community and trying to convince us that the place is dead (which is bullshit) and we are boring and therefore we must help you make a website (???).

It looks like you're a fairly competent web developer. What's stopping you from finishing up the site's bare bones and starting the process of gathering resources yourself? From what I can tell the only thing you really need help with is generating original content (tutorials), and maybe an editor to help out with making everything coherent.

Instead of just saying "here's a big project i have half-started on please help me with everything", get your shit together, complete the website's bare bones, and then make a list of basic tutorials that you want to be able to provide on your website. Start small and try to get a handful of tutorials for each animation program; for example "The user interface for Flash", or "Basic frame-by-frame animation". THEN ask people for help. They will see that a) you have already done most of the work, b) you have a plan, and c) you have clearly defined what you need help with. people will be more inclined to help that way. If you can get a collection of basic tutorials together, then your site is already useful to beginners. At that point you should think about getting a .com domain, and learning about generating website traffic.

You'll have a complete website with content for beginners, and you (and other participants) can expand on it by adding more and more content over time if the site shows promise. Then people will be more inclined to help you produce more content and soon you'll be running a quality website. If your site doesn't become popular, and people stop generating content for you, then you've at least produced a useful resource for beginners to learn basic animation. You succeed either way.
