Hey guys - chaos0176, leader of SOS here. SOS and TZ have decided to join forces to put on a public SE tournament. Tournaments haven't always went so smoothly in the past, but SOS and TZ have successful clan battles all the time now - over 30 times in 2014, just against each other! By working together, this tournament should have a great shot at running smoothly - and if it does, we may make a tournament series out of it.

The tournament will be group style (think world cup). Having the tournament at 1 set time excludes many members, and going round by round with a few days to get a single match in, just takes too long. So, we will be dividing people into groups of 4. Within each group, every member will play a best of 3 match with each of the other players. After the round robin concludes, the top 2 teams will move on to the next round.

The tournament will begin on June 1st. Signups start now! All players rated 1800 and higher are eligible. Each round will last 4 days, and there will be 2-3 rounds - so only signup if you are generally available for the first week or two in June.

Official Rules:
Scoring:
Within each group, sets will be scored as follows:
4 points - winning 2-0
3 points - winning 2-1
1 point - losing 1-2
0 points - losing 0-2

The top 2 teams from each group, by points, will move on to the next round. In the event of a tie, the head to head match will be used as the tie breaker.

Match Rules:
The rules governing each match will be the standard prep rules used by SOS and TZ. You can find them here. The short version is that each person must announce the empire they are playing at the start of the match, as well as any empire switches between games. In terms of map selection, you must play on a medium map (forest, ice, gates) in the first game. For the second/third game, castle and GH are banned. The winner of the prior game will strike 2 maps from the eligible maps (forest, ice, gates, desert, swamp, holloween), and the loser will pick from the 4 remaining maps. Empire changes happen before map selection.

General:
To sign-up, post your name, code, rating, and the clan you are in (you don't have to be in a clan).

We will get into the fine details as signups progress. The above rules may bend slightly to accommodate the actual number of participants. Please only sign up if you are confident you can participate, and let us know if you sign up but something comes up. People who signup and bail without warning may be permanently barred from all future SOS and TZ events.

The SOS IRC room will serve as a central meeting place for tournament participants, where you can find your opponents, and where admins will be available to answer questions. This is a no-lag IRC link, that you can safely leave open as you play SE. In IRC, you can click on someone's name on the right hand side, and hit slap, to get it to ding their computer, so they know you are trying to talk to them. *Make sure IRC works for you before you sign up*. Obviously, players in each group will also be given the names and codes for their opponents, to facilitate match making within SE as well - but its best to try to find people both ways. SOS and TZ leaders are going to advertise for this tournament within their own clans. I hope the other SE clans will also take an active role in encouraging tournament participation. Broad clan participation is essential to creating a top notch event!

it will officially start june 1st, like it says in the first post. however, registration will be closed sometime before then, and i'll be posting all the groups and matchups ahead of time - so people will be free to start playing each other as soon as the official matchups come out.

if everyone gets their games done early, we will start the 2nd round sooner, that would be ideal - so try to play your games as soon as matchups are announced. i wouldn't count on it happening early this time, but in future tournaments when the bums have been weeded out, its very possible.

you currently own or share boosted accounts residing in the top 20. abuse or cheating (including boosting) goes against the spirit of this tournament, which is to help foster the competitive SE community. it has always been a top priority of mine, and for SoS as a clan, to participate in the competitive community, and to contribute to that community becoming stronger and more mature. i can't monitor everything, but high profile abusers/cheaters will not be allowed in these events.

if you would like to participate in this event, you must email support@stickempires.com and ask them to reset the ranking on your boosted accounts (reset to nothing, reset to 2000, i don't care). this includes both towxminkra and towxmrwk1104, which i understand you share ownership of. if you submit proof to me of your having made this request, in the next few days (when registration will probably close), even if the admins haven't reset your accounts yet, i will allow you to participate in this event.

please respond to me privately if you have any questions or comments. i don't want to debate anything here.
