Scorch, I'm using the Jaguar/Model JG-990i

IGC: A quick note on squads. When you are in a squad, you move at the speed of the squad's fastest mech. Because units join a squad for the purpose of moving as a single unit and must break formation to fight, the weapons are not active. That power is redirected to the engines and coolant systems to increase top speed. Defensive NPCs form squads with a unit they are directed to defend, and Offensive NPCs form squads with each other. Support units can be part of a squad if ordered to be, but not its leader.

So then wouldn't it be wise to move as a squad until we reach our destination?

IGC:I think the squad was made to give a sense of vulnerability i.e if the squad is caught during movement, they cannot defend and are open to attack.

But at the beginning of the mission like this I highly doubt it, one could travel in a squad safely for like 3 turns then they could split up.
