What is B.S.E.?

It's a very simple yet fun idea, you will be given a sequence of moves and a ”special element” that must be performed in a combo. The combo is being performed by ONE stickfigure against another stickfigure. The special element can be anything from superpowers and special weapons, to different environments and music synchronization.

An example:

Combo: Punch, Punch, Kick, Kick, Kick."
Or "Punch, Kick, Throw.

Special element: The combo must be performed inside a wind tunnel.

The combos will become more advanced the further on down the competition. The final round will always have the longest combo of them all.

How many rounds?

There will be 10 rounds, each one will last 2-4 weeks. No rounds will be shortened or lengthened, even if everyone finishes their animations early, or most people don’t finish on time.

Length?

There will be NO minimum length. However, obviously, length may act as a catalyst for getting more points, which will be distributed for actual animating skill.

Can I miss a round?

You are allowed to miss out rounds and you are allowed to join this competition at any round you want, although this will obviously affect your overall score.

I'm finished!

At the end of the 10 rounds a winner will be chosen from the highest overall score, and an award will be given to the highest scorer of every round. The top mark for each round will be 10, your end score will obviously then be out of 100.

Let's get into the action!

----------------------------

Combo!
Kick, Kick, Grab, Throw, Uppercut, Punch, Knee, Pelvic Thrust, Snap Neck, Limb Decapitation.

Special Element!
The attacks of the combo must sync up with the beat of the music you've chosen.

----------------------------

This is a rehash of a round during Version 3 I enjoyed on Fluidanims. I thought you guys would enjoy it as well!

----------------------------

Description of each hit listed on the combo:

Kick - Your basic forward moving kick attack.

Grab -
The act of grabbing an opponent in an way using the hands.

Throw - Grabbing and throwing the victim in such a manner that causes their entire body to come off of the ground.

Uppercut -
Your standard vertical punching attack. More effective than the normal punch.

Punch - Your standard forward punching attack.

Knee - The act of striking an opponent with the knee.

Pelvic Thrust - The action of thrusting only the body/abdomen toward the victim.

Snap Neck -
Forcefully dislocating the head from the rest of the victim's body (aka exactly what this move means)

Limb Decapitation - The action of physically separating each of the limbs off a body (in this case, its arms, legs, and head).

Q&A

[QUOTE=Adiman
Soooo... what sound does limb decapitation make?...

I'd assume limb decapitation would create a gushy bloody sound. It's hard to describe it, but I'm sure the sound effects you'll need are in this pack right here. :)

Quote from Adiman
Also: Does the neck snapping and decapitation have to be performed by the attacking stickman, or can it be done by the environment BECAUSE of the attacking stickman...?

Yes, both the neck snap and decapitation have to be performed by the attacking stickman.

Quote from Foscex
can we edit the music so that it would fit the fight better?
For example: make the music more silent, so we can do slomotion parts?

Sure, man! As long as the attacks of the combo sync up with the beat of the music, it's totally fine. :D

Quote from PivotBlimp
Wait a minute, for the limb decapitation. It says "separating each of the limbs off a body", so do we have to take all the limbs off as the finisher?

Yeah, and only referring to the arms and legs, not the head. There are tons of ways you can go by this, too, whether your stick would like to take the victim's limbs off one by one, or even give such a forceful punch that it knocks the limbs off of the stick figure. :)

Wait, isn't Camila running these things? I thought Tsang wasn't doing these anymore. As a passive observer, I'm surprised.

Camila and I had originally run it together, but I was nowhere near as active as Camila was, so she kept things up for a while. I think the biggest issue had to be the fact that I hadn't informed her (or anyone for that matter) that I was busy and was going to drop out, I just did.

I appeared sporadically throughout BSE adjusting minor things such as updating the current round's score sheet, but ultimately I just wasn't here enough to contribute to a lot of BSE after round 2.

Camila, I'm deeply sorry about leaning all this work and hassle on you without ever saying anything about it. You did an excellent job hosting BSE by yourself, as well as getting judges, updating the scores, thinking of awesome ideas for rounds, responding to questions people had about BSE rounds at hand, and just being an overall great host. You should definitely host BSE Version 6 once that comes up. You'll be perfect for that. I wish you all the best for your illness as well.

I'd also like to thank Mustika and Arch for helping out with some of the later rounds as well. You two did a great job, especially Mustika for the overall score sheets. I can't thank you enough about that, that took a lot of work the first time I put that together.

As I've got some more free time on my hands, I'll be doing Round 9 and 10 by myself. I'll definitely put my 100% in these last two.

BSE isn't going anywhere. :)
