I've seen that, actually. One of my roommates has it on his computer and it pops up as "Threat Detected" for every non-Microsoft program, pretty much.

I have AVG and that's never happened.

AVG often pops up with a "this might be harmful" message, pretty much every time something you haven't "told" AVG is safe is trying to establish connection with the internet. It's pretty irritating from sometimes, but not really a big problem.
I've never had any problems with it mistaking other things.

Eh, well sometimes when I go to a site like Pirate Bay and see some of the comments, people complain about their AVG software picking it up as a threat while people with other softwares don't get this message and remain perfectly fine.

Hmm, okay. I've never had that problem. Maybe they use a newer/older version. I use 7.5 and I'm happy with it. Version 8 was released this month.
