At the bottom of the page when you're viewing a section there's a setting for how old you want the listed threads to be. Set it to "forever" or something like that to get the old ones.
Edit: It's "Show threads from... [the beginning]"

Might be the browser. I know for me Chrome can't run most peoples' .gifs properly but firefox can. I still don't switch of course for other reasons, although I have opened firefox twice when people had sigs I wanted to look at.

Now that I don't feel like putting an animated gif in my sig, I think autoplaying animated images should be prohibited from signatures.
