Well, I went to the Recruitment office yesterday and got my shit nailed down. US Marine Reserves straight outta HS. I'd be doing college and Reserves at the same time, so I should be a Corporal or Sergeant by the time I graduate College. America.

People have told me that you can serve for like a year or whatever and then the military will pay for your college basically. Is there a reason why you aren't doing that?

Even if you do infantry scrubs, the minimum time is 4 years. Marine basic and MOS training and Warrior Training pretty much takes up an entire year.

I'm doing Reserves during college, and they'll give me about 17 grand in scholarships, and once I'm done with school, I'll go active for four more years. But yeah, GI Bill is 10 grand a year for life, and post 9/11 means that schooling is pretty much free.

Oh. I really didn't know what I was talking about, because I wasn't planning on doing a military thing, so "a year" was more or less a wild guess. But that sounds pretty cool.

dude but I was freaking out. I was about to do MECEP, which involves finishing highschool and then doing 3 years of Marines before doing college online from Japan or Germany.

Why the marines? I'd totally go for the navy. Or do they not offer the same sort of benefits?

I think my whole computer science degree cost around about $25,000. Government pays for all of it as well as all of the student-amnenity fees. Then once I am making over a certain amount of money (which is > $50,000 I think) I pay them back a couple thousand dollars a year. Without interest.

Wow, some private colleges here will cost $25k for one semester, maybe a full year. That's before scholarships, but still.. wow.

My sister paid 40 grand a year in schooling, and it wasn't even ivy league or anything.

Anywho, I did chose Marines over Navy because I really loved the intensity and commitment of it. And besides, it's badass too.
