Yeah what he said. Even at uni I still have free time. Probably more than what I had at highschool. This is because I get about 23 weeks of holidays a year. But once you get a job, you may quickly find yourself stuck in the situation of working 9 till 5, 5 days a week for the next 40 years of your life.
Tip No.1 : Do everything you want to do (ie seeing the world, becoming a druglord, participating in terrorism, genocide, all that good stuff) before you settle down into a job. Because then you're going to spend those next 40 years thinking..... fuck. Everyone says it, see the world before it's too late. Good thing I realized this at 18.

Set a goal for yourself, that's what helped for me. Tell yourself that by the end of this month or the next one, you'll be finished with X. For me, I wanted to get in shape before the summer, and I lost 40 pounds and it feels fucking great, man. Set a long-distance goal that sounds hard as shit, but set everyday towards accomplishing that goal.
And don't work your way up like a pussy nigger. Go straight for the top, and even though you'll most likely fail on your fist shot, you gotta keep going for it.
Before, I couldn't run a single mile without taking two or three breaks. Now I run 5, and I only take a break at 2.5 because I have to turn around and get a breather. Soon, I won't take any breaks. You just have to become a machine, and do everything down to the fuckin' T and do it as well as you can.

Wow, you guys are so cool. Thanks for all that inspirational stuff. It really means a lot that you all took the time to write that stuff for me.
I don't know what you mean by 'identify', but that's sloppily written Vietnamese.
It says "I doubt you can translate this, but if you can, will you be happy to help my mother with her work [something about a store]"
The speech in that sentence seems kind of stilted to me, did you use google translate or something?

He definitely doesn't know Vietnamese, because that sentence was pretty improper. You would never hear that kind of wording in a real conversation. I would also really rather he not call me bạn, but that's not technically incorrect.

I'm impressed you can read it without the accents.
Jul 20, 2012 10:16 PM #701553
Vietnamese has essentially fixed word order, and uses a lot of compounds, so I can recognize certain pairs of words, and things that should be verbs, nouns, adj. etc.
Most native speakers of Vietnamese will leave out all accents when using cell phones or things like that, because of the obvious limitations of that kind of technology. My friend who lived in Vietnam for several years could not write words with the accents on them himself, but when I wrote them that way he could tell exactly what it was supposed to say because of the way the words fit together.

Interesting to hear. I think I've become rusty with my Vietnamese after giving up writing/reading 2 years ago.
Are you able to have fluent conversations in Vietnamese yet?

Unfortunately, no. I just don't know any people who speak Vietnamese, so it is very hard to practice. I can pick out grammatical words like phải or không in sentences but I can't really understand full sentences, and I can't come up with words off the top of my head; I have to think for a bit. I'm pretty skilled with writing, though.

Vietnamese uses the Latin alphabet + a ton of accents for all official documents and that is how writing is taught in school but most people are familiar with Hanzi because the country used to be under the rule of China and a large portion of the words in the language are ultimately Chinese loans.

If you ever cross a pho restaurant or any Vietnamese speaking ones in general, I'm sure you can start some small talk or at lest discuss about the menu given you can pass the awkwardness.

Yeah, Vietnamese is like one of the only Asian languages to have the Latin alphabet as the standard.
I've never been to a pho restaurant and I've never seen one, but if I do I will probably do this.

not bad, fusion. i translated it from english to spanish, then to german (that probably fucked it up) then google translated it, then typed it out because for some reason, this computer does NOT like the accents. basically, its saying "I doubt you can translate what im saying, but if you can, can you help your mom at the grocery store?"
