..yes? I had one at your age. If you have cash, just ask your parents to help you open a bank account, it's not that big of a deal and you're going to need one soon enough.

Or just give your parents cash and use their card.

After a couple months of work before uni starts again, I have a little over $7000 in my bank account.

Bank account is something all 15 year olds should have. As they said you will need one eventually.

Hey guys I'm deciding between the Samsung Galaxy SIII and the LG Optimus G to get for my birthday. I'm asking you guys because most people I know IRL don't know anything and would just say the Galaxy because it's the bigger name.

So yeah, if anyone has/had one of the phones and would like to give advice I'd appreciate it.

Holy fuck is this appropriately timed. I'm going to paste a chat log of my rant the other day on IRC, and you should seriously read it. Samsung are fucking retards.

[18:19] First, I phoned Samsung's support, and the person at the other end didn't bother to understand my problem. He immediately blamed me for physical damage
[18:19] It was incredibly difficult to assert that it wasn't my fault, because when they hear "cracked screen" they think it was dropped.
[18:20] Second, when he finally understood the problem, he wouldn't do anything other than a standard repair for me.
[18:20] Their repair process is fucking stupid
[18:20] The guy said I would get an email, and that's all he explained.
[18:20] At Apple, they send you a box with a prepaid shipping label on it, that's all ready for you to put your phone in
[18:21] At Samsung, they send you a vague email and give you no instruction.
[18:21] that sucks
[18:22] usually companies are too lazy and just send you a brand new one
[18:22] The email reads like they're going to send someone to pick up your phone, but I waited a week and nothing happened. I phoned back after a week and the person at the other end CONFIRMED I should just wait
[18:22] After 2 weeks, I phoned again to be told that my phone was marked repaired successfully
[18:22] even though it had never left my house
[18:22] lol
[18:22] I had to convince them I never sent it in
[18:22] They set me up with another email thing, and again didn't explain
[18:23] so I phoned back 4 more times until someone gave me something other than "yea u gotta just wait"
[18:23] finally they said that I print off the label in the email, and then SCHEDULE someone to pick up my shit
[18:23] so I did
[18:23] then the guy who comes to pick up my shit looks at me like I'm an idiot
[18:23] when I hand him a label and a phone
[18:23] and he tells me that isn't something they do
[18:24] so I phone back, probably the 10th person I've spoken to and just ripped into that person
[18:24] Working at a call center, I understand that it's not really the advisor's fault you're having a shitty time
[18:24] but after 10 people jerking me around, there's something wrong with their company
[18:25] finally this person explained in detail because they were rattled about my harsh tone
[18:25] and apparently, you print out a label and pay yourself for packing material
[18:25] you can have UPS do it AT their main office, meaning I have to drive there
[18:26] or you can do it yourself by buying a box and some bubble wrap
[18:26] if you do it yourself, there's no insurance for shipping
[18:26] so if your phone gets further damage during shipping, it's your fault.
[18:26] Shipping is standard, whereas apple's is express
[18:26] So I finally packaged the fucker up a little over a week ago
[18:26] and scheduled for someone to pick it up
[18:27] and now it's out of my hands
[18:27] it's gonna take 7 - 14 days before I hear ANYTHING about the repair
[18:27] thats such bs service
[18:27] lets just like
[18:27] you should just ask for a replacement phone
[18:27] tp their hq
[18:27] if they determine it was my fault for the damage (even though it wasn't, there's still the potential for this)
[18:27] I have to pay them for a repair, or pay $30 to have them ship it back to me unrepaired
[18:28] I have had the phone so far for less time than it's been broken

[18:28] yeah, and I'm paying $50 a month right now on contract because I have to
[18:28] even though I can't use the service.
[18:29] oh and their online repair tracker says my repair is once again completed successfully, but it says the repair completion date was a day BEFORE I phoned in.

[18:29] so I called them about this, too and they couldn't tell me the status of the repair

[18:30] When I said "defect" the first time, the protocol should have been to escalate to a senior advisor or some shit
[18:30] and they should have sent me a new phone and used the box of the new phone to ship the old one back for examination
[18:31] that was the protocol at Apple
[18:31] I really hate sounding like a fanboy
[18:31] but I worked for Apple so I know the inner workings
[18:31] it was SO much easier to get this shit fixed
[18:31] and I've had my iPhone for over 2 years and it's never inexplicably broke on me[/spoiler]

The SGS3 is legitimately a great phone. It has a few problems like with WiFi being unreliable but you might not run into that. I had the same WiFi issue on two different SGS3 phones (one special red edition and one the standard white). A lot of the cooler features you will likely never use, like the tilt-zoom which is more annoying than useful. Some of the features even drain the battery fast so you'll want to have them off if you get the SGS3. The problem I have with Samsung as you can tell from the above log is that their service is absolutely horrendous. If you do get the SGS3 make sure you're careful as fuck with it or good luck trying to get Samsung to help you. Mine broke from sitting over night without my touching it, I'd hate to be someone who dropped their legitimately.

Thanks Jeff, that actually helped me a lot. I think I'm leaning towards the Optimus G now, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. Has anyone used this phone?
