We should have the Debate Section, and then a "Debate Section for Kids" right under it.
Have fun in purgatory.

WOOAHWHEE! An intellectual conversation within the Chat Thread, I wonder how long we can make this last.

Unitl the problem is resolved, hopefully soon.

We can still have other intellectual convos here, though.

Atheism means without God, not without faith, so in that regard it is simply a non-theistic religion, where religion is any belief system.
Its ironic how less tolerant/more ignorant Atheist claim to be faithless when they in fact purport faith in the belief that their observations, or the observations that others have made, are infallible.
Because we are participants rather than outside observers of the universe, we can't really know for sure or at all.

He didn't say atheism, he said nihilism.

Which is more-or-less close to a faith and atheism. It's a doctrine just like most religions, as well. What Organs said still applies, if partially.

Due to limitation of the forum system and of electronic text, this misunderstanding was possible.
The first part was not directed at Justu, it was in general to the conversation, due to the fact that his post wasn't there when I was writing mine.

the @justu was specifically directed at him after i posted in an edit. I understand Nihilism well, and it is still a philiosophical belief system based on the faith that the assertion of life holding no Objective meaning is true. Furthermore, it suggests that the only meaning in life is what one makes off it subjectively ergo what they believe or have faith in.

EDIT: CRAP I MEANT OBJECTIVE; no meaning of life

@Justu, nilhism is still a belief system so its ultimately faith. Never said you could escape sin, Even the old testament has ways of forgiveness, after the new testament, christ is how you are forgiven for your sin

So I'll reiterate: How many of you actually attend church on a regular Christian basis or have attended theological courses in school? Biology and Earth Science don't count.

I never staked any claims to those things.
What are you even going on about?

I was talking to Naimad and Org.
I know Naimad for a fact is probably talking out of his ass and has no clue what an actual Christian environment is like. It was in relation to the whole "homosexuality isn't a sin" yet every church I've ever been to has disagreed.

@Gunni, its still an interpretation, I didn't see the link when he posted it. That bans actions not what one believes

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't churches run by mankind? The words of the Bible spread by mankind? An interpretation that is followed by many, but done so by the actions of mankind. Everyone can have their own interpretation of the Bible, even within the Christian religion. At least that's what I believe, and what my Aunt, a Christian, tells me, and has told me my whole life. <-- Kind of a hypocritical statement, but nonetheless it is one I've come to believe, and I don't expect my words to mean much here.

Already commented on the 'church going,' so... HAVE AT THEE.

And Faith is directly related to Belief. A belief in something, anything,( such as atheism, the belief that God does not exist) can be described as a Faith.

Every Sunday, if I'm not being Lazy, However, not every church is the same, (edit: as well as what Nightlock said) its not really valid considering the fact that many ignorant Christians regulary attend church blindly following their clergymen rather than thinking for themselves.

technically true, since faith is a type of belief. That does not change the fact that they are nearly identical except for the religious connotation that comes with Faith. Since I don't want to get into a vocab debate, which is worse imo then a religious one, truth is not a prerequiste of belief, at the same time belief creates a subjective truth

Ohhhh.
Yeah I take the whole stance of honestly.
WHO GIVES A FUCK IF IT'S A SIN. 1/10 men are homosexual, if being homosexual is a "sin" if it's inherently "Wrong" then I would gladly be cast into the searing inferno defending them to the man made god. In what way will hating 1/10'th of my fellow man to bring me and others happiness, in what way will it better the world?
I can't believe hate against sexuality is even still a thing.

And there's no way I can believe that being a lesbian is a sin, or wrong. What's more beautiful than two women making love?
Except perhaps two women making love with a bit of me right there at the end.

For example I wouldn't say I have faith that 1+1=2, instead I would say that I believe that 1+1=2. Because we know for certain that 1+1=2, all the evidence in the world suggests that. No no, faith is much harder than belief and it's much scarier. Faith would be claiming certainty of something that empirical evidence doesn't fully support or even contradicts. True faith is usually without belief.

But in essence faith is more about letting go of what you "Believe".

I have been told that most Christian churches do in fact say homosexuality IS a sin. As well as sex before marriage. Ive only been to church once in the past 7 years and even I know that.

Yeah I believe in living my life as a good person, but I doubt religion is for me. So if a God would send me to hell for that then fuck him.

Also, if God thinks lesbians are an abomination, then he's either a woman or a fag. Honestly God being a woman would explain a lot.
