We should be in bed. In theory I'm writing an essay; what's your excuse?
I'm working, I wish I was in bed right now.

Nothing exciting I'm afraid. It's on Bertrand Russell's response to E.E.C. Jones' response to Russell's earlier criticisms of Gottlob Frege regarding whether or not the sentence "Scott is the author of Waverley" asserts an identity of denotation. Essentially, does "the author of Waverley" refer to Scott, or is it just a predicate which we can apply to Scott? To make things even more complicated, Russell thinks "Scott" doesn't actually refer to Scott either, but I have to write the essay imagining he thinks it does.
Next week I'll be writing about why nobody exists in more than one world at once. It promises to be much more eggsiting.

I always hated Wittgenstein's language-game assertion and any school of thought derivative of the philosophy of language - especially referentialism. I don't understand Russell's latter assertion because basic Linguistic theory takes the predicativism stance about proper names is the thesis that a proper name, as it occurs in a sentence in a context of use, expresses a property, and its property expressed in a context-bound sentence. So "Scott" would be a predicate of identity because the "Scott" that "fell off a tree" would be different from the "Scott that caught Scott that fell off a tree". Oh language games.
But then again, now that I think about it, "predicate" in Linguistics literally means anything in a sentence that isn't the direct subject. So
Hmu when you start existentialism. Is that even existentialism? Nihlism? Extreme nihlism?
