I like to think of the Chat Thread as the Prancing Pony to Stickpage's Bree.

We have to have the one town drunk who always hangs out in out the bar, and everyone else pays for his drinks.
Edit: 96666 get.

Quote from HewittIt shouldn't be a snooty social club, but at the same time, it shouldn't be a dead end biker pub on the bad side of town either.
For sure. At the same time, there's a lot of mixed messages going on. You say the Chat Thread isn't a snooty social club but then everyone rags on people who they deem aren't contributing. Everyone, including yourself act elitist about it. So instead as you said, we need to be reporting people who are mindlessly posting. Which just sounds a lot like mini-modding to me, which is also condemned. I definitely understand asking people to just ignore the mindlessness. Of course they shouldn't be feeding into it. But I feel like there are enough moderators on this site looking over things without us having to push a button warning you guys because someone is off topic or something.
I feel I do contribute in some capacity at least, and there are a lot of other members who do. I never have been that asshole who's ragging on someone for being a "useless poster". But instead regular members and moderators complain and get into it with these guys. Either filter it out, or stop complaining is how I feel. None of this in between and putting frustrations on the decent members. There's a reason why we're not moderators. And a reason why you are. I love you Hewie 100%. You just sound a little overwhelmed by your duties. Way more than you should considering this is just a forum.

Pff, probably Harvie. The drunk who gets kicked out but always finds a way to stumble back in. Edit: Gyoh can also be a drunk who everyone buys drinks for out of pity.
Oh, and Firefly/Rosie get hit on all the time because they're the only two girls in the bar.

Firefly, Rosie, Camila, Erin, RawrzCupcakes, Charry....
Who did I miss? Acutelatios?

Well, I only listed Firefly and Rosie because they seem to be the most frequent posters in the chat thread out of the 6(7) you listed. I suppose you could throw in Camila or Charry, as well.
Also, who would I be in this hypothetical sports bar we're comparing to the chat thread?

You'd probably be the hobo-looking guy with a huge beard in the corner who was once pretty damn big but, his ex-wife took it or something.

Aw come on, you can do better than that.
Edit: You sly bastard, with your invisible edits and shit.

Quote from HewittReporting and mini-modding are two different things. Minimodding is outright telling people off, and/or asking them to cut that shit out. Or acting like and feel the need to restate the rules and say that they know what they're talking about. Those posts are spam in themselves because they don't contribute a thing with what can easily be resolved by just reporting it discreetly. When you make a report, it isn't going to be 100% acted upon by us. Reports help us hone in on the possible crisis and give us a reason to look into something and see if it should be moderated. If it isn't we leave it alone and ignore your report.
And no, you don't know how much Reporting means to us to the point that if no one did it we'd be blind and only half as effective. There are literally hundreds of posts everyday. Do you think we have eyes at the back of our heads open 24/7, seeing which 10-post noob is causing trouble or not? Some mods like Rosie graduated from the RHG Section, so that's always going to be one of her old haunts. But the Chat Thread moves too fast on occasion and she won't be here all the time to regulate it. I mean, you see something that you think doesn't add, then Report it what's the harm? It helps us ALOT.
Personally, I feel that if a post can be salvageable, I like to give it a little nudge. I don't wanna infract them too quickly because they may not have meant to do it. There is always a way to get back on track with infractions being the last resort. But when it's obvious that you should know better, then all bets are off. And that's just me. Other mods have their own ways to deal with it, but the results and intentions will always be the same.
Regardless, you have a point. I will now resort to utter infraction-ville if you really want me to.
Okay, and it helps to understand more that reporting actually does help, cause I honestly just imagined it was useless and didn't make much of a difference. I'm totally disappointed now that I know you guys don't have eyes on the back of your heads though ;) .And for the record, I think the forum is moderated well and do the best you can do. I was just telling Rosie she's a little ass kicker lol. But yeah, I mean if infractions are the way to go, then hell, go infraction-ville if it helps. And I will report now if I ever see some craziness.

Quote from HewittYou're the guy who last came to this bar when you won the local basketball intramural. You've had fond memories here, chatting up with your mates while drinking ginger ale for possibly the first time and laughing it all off. You talked about girls, the game, the future. All those expectations.
Who knew you'd be stuck in some cubicle filing papers from god knows where for the rest of your life. You've become a soulless corporate lackey, who's ambition in life is to be promoted within the next year. And though that is a blessing in disguise, you longed for a memory that didn't start with sense for sense's sake. You throw practicality out the window, drive back to your hometown during your paid vacation leave, and return to this very same bar after 5 years of haven't been to it. With your slate wiped clean of posts, you step inside as a completely new man; one that feels his little highschool sports nest hasn't changed one bit.
Wow, Hewitt. That was... That was actually really good. I was smiling the whole time I read it. I'm not joking, either. Thanks for that, mate.
I actually kind of want to spoiler-sig this.

I feel I'd be that one security guard skulking in the corner, idly watching things that go down yet remaining anonymous to a degree. But I suppose that would be a bit of an overestimation on my part as to my own abilities. Still, I like to feel needed. Away from that depressing note, who here actually frequents bars? There is this Jazz Bar I occasionally visit to meet up with the saxophone player, who is a kind-of friend of mine. He's pretty cool overall, and likes to teach me some tips and tricks.
