Yes, and that western scientific method happens to actually work. The scientific method wasn't developed to evaluate an 'approach' to health science. It's inherently suitable for evaluating all approaches.

The western scientific approach certainly works in most cases, but it fails to take the individual into account. it puts everything in terms of the illness. It categorized and labels, performs predefined tests, and bases the result on sample groups, using individuals only as subjects.

In chinese medicine, the individual is absolutely central; the medicine simply won't work if you don't take every detail of their constitution, history, and personality into account. Because of this I say that the western method is an invalid approach to determining the effectiveness of chinese medicine. There simply isn't enough focus on the individual.

Chinese medicine doesn't take the individual into account.

What makes us individual? Our DNA and our brain.

Science attempts to understand these mechanisms in their entirety. Only then can you completely take an individual into account. Chinese medicine, for the most part, knows nothing about how the body functions at the lowest level (edit: not to say that most of it doesn't work, because it does. That's what happens when you have thousands of years of trial and error), certainly not the brain (which is where your personality, memories, individuality manifests itself). It's like trying to fix a damaged processor without actually knowing how a processor works. You can guess, and you could even make a guess as to what type of processor it is, but that won't change the fact that you don't understand how that processor is broken, and how it's constructed at the semi-conductor level.

Seeing that we don't have a complete understanding of the brain and DNA, the best we can do it test large sample groups. If something shows little to no effect in a sample group of 1000 people, it's pretty likely it won't have much of an effect for any individual. But the day will come when neurology and the other appropriate disciplines of science have these mechanisms 100% figured out.

Sorry, I had an awesome comment and the power went out right while I was writing it.

But if they have one, you can buy one. It's quite great, durable case.

Can we please never talk about spiritualism on this forums again. It's making me hate certain people that I really like for being gullible idiots and knowing nothing about the fundamental mechanics of science.

"...and yet it still works."

That was kinda harsh and generalist IMO, but I'm not denying it. As much as I'd like to see big names slugging it out (which actually worries me tbh), I'm sure they're taking it to the PM's (or Debate Section). My opinion is that reality isn't always consistent and we can never (probably will never) be certain about it, there will always be that uncertainty. Until around twenty years from now, where the next big 'breakthrough' will inspire sweeping changes to everything. no fightan pls

Mankind has six (or sixty) years until everything I want becomes a lie. Can you imagine how much it would suck if we will be stuck in this 'modern age' for decades?

Lol well maybe you should learn to be a big boy and accept that everyone's different and have their own experiences, opinions and beliefs. That was probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen you say and I'm honestly disappointed. You don't know everything all the time, Gyo. No one does. Your arrogance makes it hard for even me to like you sometimes. Here people are having a genuine conversation about something that interests them, and you say that? Don't dictate to us what can and can't be talked about when at least we're putting effort into having one at all. Neither of us deserve you acting like a self righteous ass just cause you don't believe in what we may believe in. Have some respect.

I have to admit, yes. But that'd could go worse instead. Global Warming gets worse, humanity in faith starting to disintrigate, what else?
But I also think that wont be happening. If you consider being in 2020, what would it look like? Would there be less sassy women, or would there be more?

What exactly do you not want to do, Gyo? Firefly brings up a very valid point. Just because you don't like spiritualism, doesn't mean it should be a taboo topic.

I can completely crush you right now with your idea that spiritualism is somehow valid because you like it and that because "I don't like spiritualism" I'm an arrogant ass.
She doesn't bring up a valid point at all, she threw ad hominems at me because she doesn't like her personal opinions to be attacked.

And what I don't want to do is lose a friend by telling them the truth. But I will.

Okay well maybe I can narrow this down for you: It's NOT about the argument of spiritualism. You didn't come in debating that -- which would have been a great. What pissed me off was that you contributed absolutely nothing and basically told us to shut up because anyone who doesn't see things from your perspective is not worthy of being respected. And THEN you told us what we can and cannot talk about. THAT'S what the problem was.

Or maybe you need to read over my post again:

You didn't come in being intelligent and having a proper discussion, which would have been wonderful. I love debates and discussions and having my ideas challenged. It's good mental exercise. But you came in dictatorial, arrogant like always. This is an always occasion. Not just unique to the topic of spiritualism or whatever. You're just chronically negative and a prick for no reason and that's honestly why I don't talk to you much outside the forums. And I don't want this to turn into some long drawn out thing but your attitude is so negative that I think I'm gonna have to put you on ignore. Sorry.

But that's wrong. My perspective has nothing to do with this. It's science.
I'm actually a spiritual person, believe it or not. But it doesn't matter how much I like to believe in a oneness of the universe, it doesn't affect reality.

I don't have snow where I am living in England unfortunately, but I heard it was snowing in Manchester so it might be coming to London soon.
