Oh smog is obscuring sight so bad our people can't see the setting sun? QUICKLY! BUILD AN EXPENSIVE MONITOR IN TOWN SQUARE SO PEOPLE CAN SEE THE SUN SET!
Or you could, I don't know, spend all that money cleaning your air.
I've heard about this a lot, and it's actually a myth. I lost the link that I read that debunked this, but here's another thing:

Correction: The original post did not mention that the large screens in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square broadcast panoramic scenes on a daily basis, regardless of atmospheric conditions, nor did it state that the sunrise was part of a tourism commercial.
Air pollution isn't anywhere near bad enough in China to fill the air with smog. Yet. I think the whole thing was started by one of those click-bait websites that spin stories together or some news bullshit. Not to say that the pollution that they
do have isn't a serious problem
