Well yeah, but there's something about competing against someone else that pushes you to really do your best, but there's not many people who would like to do something like that.
A collaboration like Nish's "Animate a theme in any way you interpret it" for writing would be fantastic.

Devour is there no speaker where you are? Or is that not allowed?

We sorta had that, "Friday Funk" which is a bit under-participated (but you're still free to write for it).

The Great Stickpage Writing Project? Isn't that 'Friday Funk' concept meant to fulfill the same need?
Would anyone go for it if it happens? Do we have enough interest? My biggest concern is this: With animation, there was a NEED to do something different because everyone was stuck with stick fights and RHGs. But in the literature section, people are already doing a diverse range of stuff. So I don't know if it serves a purpose.
NINJA'D.

I like the idea of a collaboration in which the animators would work on what they specialize on, rather than work on everything as a whole.

Exilement suggested something like that. It would be great if it happened, but I think all our tastes and styles are too different. The only time you'll get people who have similar animation styles and similar interests is when you get them together for stick fights, and then we're back to square one.

How would that work out. It sounds interesting but if everyone is working on whatever their specialty is and they are all different things, how could they compete

I'm not sure if he meant it as a competition. I think he meant it more as a collaboration with more synergy than usual. I could be wrong though.

Instead of having one person's part followed by another person's part
you could collaborate on a scene. Follow the same storyboard. One guy does backgrounds and scene transitions, sends to another guy to do movements, sends to another guy to do effects, etc.

Oh yeah, for some reason my brain turned collaboration into competition, my baaad
waffles, me and a group of animators are actually doing something of that sort right now for a fullbody project, it might be interesting to try it out here, but I can see it getting cumbersome without dropbox or anything

Divide the animation into segments/roles. We assign a leader(Director) to oversee and give out instructions for the whole project, then allow those members(Hand picked or voluntary) to do what they're best at doing(e.g: Arch Angel for Backgrounds).
Of course, everyone would be given a copy of the what, when, why, and how(e.g storyboard). It requires a lot of planning too. It may be hard but it isn't far fetched as you guys think it is.

It would work only if you all use the same software, yeah? Sounds interesting though.

Yeah, this^
I get what you mean now, the only thing is that I can see it being less than efficient but that's fine I suppose

Unfortunately, only in the core animation.
Although, you can use After Effects for the final touches and PhotoShop for images
