This whole talk has been pretty refreshing/motivating, which is awesome.

I've been very happy these days because ever since I quit my job and started doing something good, I've inspired a couple of my friends to do the same. One of them moved to a part time job and he is now going to publish a novel in Jan (its great, and a company is actually organizing a big book launch event for him). Another just started his own gaming youtube channel that hes working on a business plan for. I love trying to get people to do what they love, but I'm wary of who I actively support because most people do it for a few weeks and then lose motivation again, and it can be a bummer to deal with those people.

Well I don't draw normally either. But that's because of my incopetence. I should find time to post my "art" sometime in here.

Assuming that you drew your avatar, you should wait a few years.

I can't take all of the credit for this one, Nish. You are the most interesting user on StickPage. At least I've always found you to be a very interesting character. Sacred and MiniMan are pretty neat too, but they're too wishywashy around these parts. I would like to be able to have the ability to just commit to something and stay with it, but something that I've learned from animating is that I'm bad with sticking to a plan. Like I'll come up with a cool idea of something to animate, and then the idea ends up growing and becoming too complicated for my skills to be able to properly convey, so I would end up losing hella motivation. I guess it'd be easier to say that I tend to fall into the instant gratification aspect of being a millennial in that I don't want to have to spend too long on something or having to redo the same thing over and over again to achieve satisfactory results.

I think because I want to do it as a hobby, not as a career, I'll feel better sticking with it. After all, I'm not looking to give up culinary quite yet, but neither will I do that exclusively all my life. I have things I like to do, and I plan to do them. If I can make something from them on the side, then good for me.

Lmao. I like TdGuy though. I think he has the potential to be Lami-like. He seems like a good sport and he is always up for new conversation.

I find that it helps if you just do ONE thing. ONE animation, ONE drawing, anything. From start to finish, then you'll get the motivation to keep doing it. I had the same problem with working out. I decided I was just going to go for ONE class of martial arts and if I couldn't find motivation, I'd stop. One class turned to two classes and now I'm rapidly losing weight and doing two different martial arts.

Instead of aiming above your skills, try to come up with a cool idea that CAN be conveyed through your skill. You're actually smart enough to figure that out so you don't have the same excuse that a lot of other people have.

Yeah I think people should stop thinking about what they're going to do once its done, and focus more on actually finishing it first. Thats where I always used to get stuck. I'd made something and then think "yeah this isn't going to do me any good once I finish it" and I'd quit.

Apex, aren't you part of Stone's animation crew? Or is that another Apex?

Yeah, it's me. I think I unintentionally took a break from that, I became busy for a set amount of time and the rest as they say is history.

I have no clue what this history is. Do you still do stuff along those lines at least for yourself?

A lot of people tend to have a mentality that doing something is just one really big step and it's either you do it or you don't. But what they forget is that most everything is not just one big step. It's a bunch of little steps in order to achieve the overall goal. They say that you should focus more on the journey than the start or finish.

Another thing you should know, is that most everyone hates failing more than they love succeeding. The idea of not being able to finish something scares people from putting in a full effort. But when you come up to a challenge, instead of feeling like you pale in comparison, think of the gratification you'll feel if you overcome it. I guarantee that if you actually make it to that point, you'll be happy as hell to have done it. And if you don't, know that you tried and failed rather than ran away. You have to learn to fail, to succeed.

Obviously this has to do with more than just animation, film, a hobby, etc. This involves just about most things you want but don't have a clear path to. Which is just life testing you to see how badly you want it.
