nope, friction takes a big chunk out of a windmill's efficiency.

Well fuck.
Do you have any idea how I can convert the kinetic energy into electrical output?

Edit: never mind, turns out I was already factoring that in with my calculations. No help required, I got it.

maybe I misread your first question, let me clarify that first

However, isn't it true that, ignoring some heat, all the kinetic energy would be outputted to electrical energy, no matter the type of dynamo we use because of the whole principle of conservation of energy

are you talking about the kinetic energy in wind, or the rotational kinetic energy of the windmill blades?

The latter.

But in the formulas I used it already factors in inefficiency through Betz' Law, so I already have the electrical energy it would generate.

Betz' law only concerns the energy extraction limit for wind, as far as the generator itself the energy conversion efficiency is only limited by stuff like electrical resistance, heat and other small-scale things that depend on the quality of the generator.

Hey guys, I've got a physics/engineering question for you

Right now I'm building a small windmill with students as a college project. Long story short, I'm in charging of all the math behind energy conversion.

Now I know how to calculate the kinetic rotational energy based on the length of the windmill's blades and now I'm supposed to convert those to electrical energy.

However, isn't it true that, ignoring some heat, all the kinetic energy would be outputted to electrical energy, no matter the type of dynamo we use because of the whole principle of conservation of energy?

This is the last bit I need to figure out and google isn't helping right now.

Subtract the friction both physical and electrical, and account for any energy dispersed into the environment from the windmill's output (waste), and you should have the numbers right.

It's about time Valve started making that game.

(10/1)/13 = .76923

7 + 6 - 9 + 2 - 3 = 3

Everything (10)
You (3)
Do (2)
Confirms (8)
Half (4)
Life (4)
3 (1)

10 - 3 - 2 - ((8 / ((4 / 4) + 1)) = 3

Electrical friction? One of us must be doing something wrong.

A portal and half-life movie?

I'd like to see how that's going to turn out.

You guys probably have seen this already, but the fact that this was made so well under the concept of Portal gives me at least some hope for the development.
