What benefits do those particular protein cells (that we are trying to suppress) provide? Because if its was totally harmful, evolution would have weeded it out at this point.

That's not entirely how evolution works. If the protein didn't have any harmful effects but just sat there for no reason, it wouldn't necessarily be "weeded out" at any point in time.

Hey !
I ask anybody to tell me WHY almost every post I make I recieve an infraction.
acutelatios sent me one on the "maze game" thread (in the original games thread) and I'm not the only one to "bump" (becasue APPEARENTLY, I'm bumping every posts) but I'm the only one to recieve infractions.
Does acutelatios hate me or what ?

Both the appendix and the outer ear and jaw protrusions have reduced significantly.

Also, it if causes Cancer and provides no benefits, yes it is weeded out. Thats how it works.

You should be taking this to a private message than posting it here. It will only get you infracted again.

I had an interesting experience today I thought I'd share. I was at my parent's place helping my dad stow the seats in his van earlier when the seat I was lifting up vertically suddenly slid forward and crushed the ring finger on my right hand between two sections of metal using the full weight of the seat. Instead of freaking out or writhing in pain, I just kinda stared at it for a few seconds before I realized what was going on. Then I tried to pull it out and realized it was pretty fucked in there. So I kinda said, "Huh, my finger's stuck in the seat." To which my dad replies, "What?" So I motioned with my free hand and my dad was the one who started freaking out. He ran around to look at it and pushed a bit in vain trying to slide the seat back, and I'm just kinda standing there letting him know if it's working, but the entire time I'm insanely calm, laughing about the whole situation and by all rights I probably shouldn't be. I felt bad for my dad because he was like, "I have no idea what to do" after it wouldn't move, so I kinda thought about how I got there in the first place and reversed what I did, then grabbed the front bar of the seat that lets it slide and slid it back finally freeing my finger. It was pretty badly damaged, the nail is all fucked up out of shape and punctured, and almost an entirely layer of skin was removed. It was impossible to hold my arm still and there was plenty of blood, but it all just seemed funny to me. My dad was freaking out more than I was.

It's weird how the body reacts to this kind of shit. I can't put any pressure on the finger now without it hurting a lot but it happened like 3 hours ago and I just... don't care. I feel like I should. I feel like maybe I should visit a doctor to make sure I didn't fracture anything, but then I figure it'll just heal eventually and now I'm sitting here typing this. Really weird reaction.

Wow, ouch.

Sounds like a defense mechanism. Like I don't react to pain immediately either. Also, I can't bring myself to cry at funerals. I try to hide it but I'm feeling almost cheerful when I go, even if it's pretty sad.

This proves nothing.

Who says it causes Cancer?

Evolution works by random mutations. Your genes don't go picking out what parts they like/dislike and put that in your kid. It's mostly random chance+situational fitness

Just because something might have more benefit for not being in your system, doesn't mean it'll be removed by evolution.

I had an owie but i didnt react.

I once had this happen to me. Got hit by a motorcycle while on my bike. I woke up on the floor, stood up, saw my family members standing around the motorcyclist, screaming at him (I still don't get why no one came for me though, wtf?). I got up, walked over to him, shook his hand and fucking ran home, because my bike was too fucked up to ride.

Couldn't walk for a week afterward.

Weird I do the same thing. I felt like an inhuman monster at my grandparents individual funerals because everyone else was crying and shit and I was just sitting there stone faced.

Yeah it feels like you're some kind of psychopath, lmao. Especially when I went to my classmate's funeral.

It's probably all like, your body doesn't want you to be sad. You should really have that hand looked at though!

I did the exact same thing, although instead of going to the funeral I was actually there and watched my grandmother die to cancer in our house.
It became very sad at the end, though.

Well shucks man, that's terrible. Sorry you had to go through that.

On a brighter note, who wants to hang out or something? I'm studying and I could use some company to half-distract me.

I'm very poor when it comes to one on one social interactions, I typically do best with 2 to 4 other people in the group so the dead silence doesn't signal off the other persons "fuck this guys is awkward" alarm....

but I'm sure one of the other guys/gals would be happy to!
