I'm more confused as to how it automatically fixed itself in my case.

Maybe it just does it randomly.

Dad's laptop once had a virus that would play advertisements every few minutes, but here's the catch: You couldn't see the actual ads and delete them. They were completely undectable, and would play the audio. Imagine being pestered by a mormon, but not actually being able to see him.

It helps if you don't let people use your computer so random sites can't get you a virus... Thankfully I have yet to get any viruses because I only use my PC for gaming on steam and my phone for certain websites... Plus plug ins and add ons you can see them if you goto options and hit plug ins... Anything that looks like it shouldn't be there and they do say developer/source then delete it

Its 4:45 am and I'm still at work.

I think I need a break from something but I'm not sure what.

We're planning a huge concert to release the soundtrack of the film. Also we're in the last couple of weeks of shooting so we're transferring all the footage by night. I'm doing some work for that.

In Japan, I hear that sleeping on the job is encouraged because it looks like you worked hard enough to be exhausted. You could introduce that to the workplace ;)

:) I don't think Japanese leisure techniques are going to help me bring out a movie in time that costs millions of dollars. I shall institute it for the next film though.

I used to work doing tech support for Apple in 2011 so I can tell you that Macs definitely get viruses and malware, so if you're ready to dismiss this because you own a Mac I urge you to reconsider.

They do, but from my experience it is far less likely to happen with Macintosh than with Windows, isn't it? If so, does the same apply to Linux?

A few years ago I would confirm what you are saying, but these days I've seen just as many people with OS X viruses. Even more so, maybe, because Windows amped up their security and their users are used to defending against them whereas OS X users have problems accepting that OS X isn't as secure as they think it is let alone that they themselves have a virus. This is anecdotal to be fair, but when I worked doing Apple tech support I was there for the MacDefender virus so I experienced first hand the sheer number of people calling in about it.
