Greg banged Rose and had a kid, so your friend is wrong.

Your friend is wrong because they don't have real genders/sexes. They're constructs surrounding a sentient gem/stone.
That said, if they did have genders and/or sexes, there is a chance of some accuracy in the statement, due to Garnet, Pearl's feelings towards Rose, and the intricacies of Gem Fusion overall.

The stuff going on with Garnet is definitely romantic, but I really doubt that Pearl's feelings towards Rose are romantic in any way whatsoever. It came off more as a "she looks up to and completely respected her leader in every way" sort of thing.
Also, weird technicality. All of the gems are genderless, but they're referred to as "she, her, etc etc etc" throughout the entire series, even by other gems, and all of them appear as female. So for all intents and purposes if a gem were to hook up with another gem it may as well be a lesbian relationship. Which, I doubt in the 12k+ years that gems have been around that there's only been one romantic couple out of them.

I don't know why but my tv needs a password for me to watch Steven universe, so I'm almost half a year behind in almost every kids TV show that doesn't suck.

There's respect, then there's what Pearl has. As for Garnet, it's canon that Ruby and Sapphire are lovers, and their fusion signifies their love for each other. So if being a giant woman is a lesbian relationship, then alright then, you can have that.

This can't just be left on here without an explanation, Yalazer. Come on, where are the goods. Give us those gritty details.

Even then Pearl's is much more like idolization and worship. Still never got any sort of romantic vibes off of it. Steven and Connie is obvious, and Ruby/Sapphire was obvious. Pearl and Rose? Not so much. It's more like Pearl was completely devoted and dedicated to Rose as a leader. Not that she wanted to get with that. Similar to how Amethyst's relationship with Pearl is almost sisterly and with Rose is almost motherly.
Basically, no doubt Pearl loved Rose, (Everyone did!), but I really really doubt that Pearl was in love with Rose.

The devotion she showed in Rose's Scabbard was, IMO, past that of simple loyalty. Her constant bragging about being Rose's sole confidant, her desolation when Steven pretty much destroyed the notion that Rose kept nothing from her, all of it feels pretty much like how somebody with a crush is broken when they learn they didn't know the person as well as they thought. There's also her dialogue, such as "How would you know [about Rose]?! You never even met her!" or late in the episode "You sound just like her sometimes...." which Greg, Rose's lover, also tells Steven. If not for the show's nature, I'd say she's an Overly Obsessed [Not] Girlfriend.

I'd rather a children's rendition of a terrible American sitcom any day, too!

No, they're confirmed "Word of God" lovers.
