Jumpscares are a shit tactic to scare viewers. Real fear is something you have to build up yourself, not some cheap monster showing up fast while sharp violins bombard your ears.

the Halloween and Jason series did it right. It gave watchers a sence of dread because there was literally nothing you can do, once they wanted to kill you, you're dead. You cant kill them, you can just delay them killing you.
