Don't worry, I'm one of those people who doesn't go around with a fag-beating stick, nor a "Protect the Gays!" shield. I'll just go sip some tea and appreciate how much better I am than you.

I genuinely hope your entire persona is ironic.

Pray and hope all you want. Your God's answer will always be the same.

I will sit here beyond the electronic veil laughing at you.

I can't tell if this is a genuine question or an example.

You can never wear the trilby too tight. If I weren't such an alpha, he same could probably be said for Externus' gay ass.

i know i'm late to the conversation, and i'm pretty sure i've said this before, but

i don't understand why anybody believes that it's necessary to worship or pay special attention or respect to a god, even if one does exist.

if a god exists and it's meant to be benevolent and omniscient, there's zero chance of eternal damnation as long as you make a reasonable effort to not be an awful person. such a god shouldn't, on the day of your judgement, care at all whether you had faith in whether or not it existed, simply because there isn't any moral fault in working with a rational conclusion such as "a god probably doesn't exist" or "it's impossible to know so there's no point worrying about it". what's the point of worship, then? is it to suck up to god for brownie points in case he does exist? isn't that actually closer to being a sin than simply going about your business?

if a god exists that demands worship and faith for entry into heaven or what-have-you, or if a god exists that is spiteful or wrathful, then as a matter of principle that god isn't benevolent enough to deserve worship in the first place.

if no god exists, or a god exists that doesn't care about worship, and you worship a god anyway, you're basically wasting time and effort that would be better spent working towards self-improvement through tested and proven means such as exercise, meditation, and learning about healthy diet and lifestyle.

if a god exists that happens to be the type to get angry at its subjects worshiping false gods or other gods, then you're playing russian roulette when you choose a god to worship. the wiser decision is to abstain from worship entirely, as it's impossible to fault the logic that "there were many religions claiming to know the true god, but no way to know which was telling the truth, so i found it best to just wait and see for myself".

tl;dr worshiping a god is unnecessary at best, irrational in general, and dangerous at worst.

So, people in a simulation created their own life simulators for entertainment? That's pretty cool.

I feel like believing you're in a simulation is even cheaper of a thought than relying on religion for an answer to everything. I find it kind of weird that believing you're in a simulation is more acceptable than believing God created all of this..not to say that both these concepts aren't extremely closely interlocked. In fact, I almost feel that's the whole premise of God and our existence if He is out there. It's a test or experiment. We're given "free will" (whatever that means) and we're rewarded or punished for our actions, just like any set of lab rats.

It's bullshit, quasi-philosophy, but I feel we're akin to lab rats in our own sense. I would've said on a grander scale, but, it's extremely arrogant to think that we're grand in anyway, just like a mouse might think his own world is grand.

I don't know. I feel like it honestly doesn't matter. There's never going to be an answer to this question unless the Rapture comes and ends us all, no matter how far time goes.

Except I'm not using it to explain everything, except for your unique conscious experience; acknowledging that the truths you experience may not be set in stone. It brings the question of whether you are just stuck in layers of simulations and if it is possible to know whether you are in the "real" world if simulation is a possibility. You can even believe this idea whilst believing in god. Ultimately this idea is pointless (for the time being), but hey, at least it doesn't come with any moral guidelines and makes for waaay better movies.

And when you say god. What god? A white guy with a white beard on white clouds with a halo? Some amorphous entity that can create anything? I'm more inclined to accept the latter simply because there is less human bias involved. But personally I don't care what story you "believe" in to explain how something is, because once you acknowledge that there is no evidence then all these stories are made from the same stuff, hence all cheap if you consider facts as currency. But I suppose you can be a step up the ladder if your story is consistent and makes logical steps.

EDIT: No offense Externus, but I find your writing a little hard to follow. I don't know if it's just me but I'm having to re-read your paragraphs to try to understand what you're really arguing. I feel like you're changing gears so often that I end up having to make connections between your sentences. Or it just could be that my comprehension skills have gone to shit.
