Quote from CruelThat's exactly how I feel about written material. I looked online at how to be a comedian, and one of the things was to "write comedy every day." So I sat down with a blank doc page open and realized that it's hard as fuck. So I went out with my friends and we encountered a guy dressed as a king, walking up to people in the coffee shop saying "bow to me peasants!" And there is where I realize is that life is random, and that there is humor literally everywhere. So I just tell them the weird shit that happens to me, and put myself in a position for weird shit to happen. It's fun and makes life so much more interesting when you see something and think "There's a joke here, I know it."
Comedy does attract a strange mindset. Like we're actively looking to fuck up.
Quote from Kodokuas an actor, what I suggest is use a script for the most important things. Kinda like the draft of a script.
You'll have the best from both: A solid rail to follow from the script with the freedom you have while doing improv.
I have done something like this but I'm just not usually aware of it. I tend to stick to my jokes pretty tightly so not to go over time. And since my jokes are usually short one linerish kinds, I have to keep in mind word economy. But sometimes when the joke flat out bombs I go off script in an attempt to find that punchline. Worked a few times actually which ironically pisses me off since I put so much thought into what I wrote but they instead respond to an off the cuff comment.
